Purpose The purpose of this study was to explore the lived experiences internationally educated nurses (IENs) in USA, focusing on challenges they faced and coping strategies used cope with those challenges, understand how IENs manage from lens psychological capital (PsyCap) development for their well-being, given increasing reliance addressing global nursing shortages. Design/methodology/approach authors a qualitative research design capture conducted semi-structured interviews 19 diverse backgrounds. analyzed narratives adjust US health-care system, using thematic analysis. Findings interviewed encountered significant such as having adapt cultural differences facing systemic barriers credentialing integration. Their included embracing hard work, reframing through gratitude seeking support ethnic peer networks. Those helped them stress adjusting new environment. To help face when entering system recommend enhancing leaders’ awareness implementing formal networks reforms. Research limitations/implications This contributes existing literature by offering better understanding unique face, highlighting need tailored settings. Future is called test effectiveness proposed recommendations supporting IENs’ PsyCap well-being. Practical implications Insights will guide professions education human resource (HRD) practitioners designing developing targeted interventions IENs, competence training both peers leaders inclusive HRD practices, improving well-being patient care. Originality/value revealed unexpected insights into health care, including persistent language barriers, belonging obstacles related immigration. Ethnic-specific support, emotional resilience mental reframing, where compare current past hardships, emerged key strategies. These enabled maintain perspectives that were not previously captured literature.

Introduction: Persistent racial and gender disparities are prevalent within the higher education medical training system, notably seen in underrepresentation of Hispanic or Latinos, Black Americans, female surgeons compared to their respective population proportions. This study aims quantify publications addressing ethnic diversity across various surgical specialties, analyze publication trends, explore specific topics literature. Database: The Database includes PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus Methods: Employing Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), we conducted a systematic literature review utilizing databases. A broad inclusion criterion both plastic surgery, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, dermatology, orthopedic surgery was utilized. selected between 2014 2024. In content our study, articles defined as any article that focused on racial/ethnicity subspecialty. Results: Of 1529 initially screened articles, 346 were included. Orthopedic had most (n = 86), followed by general 67) 51). Significant increases observed all specialties. showed highest growth (+0.17 publications/year, p < 0.001), (+0.12, 0.002) (+0.11, 0.003). Race/ethnicity primary focus (51.4%), with fewer (19.7%) (28.9%). Diversity included demographics, pipeline/recruitment, application process, experience, leadership, workplace treatment. Conclusion: These insights underscore importance continued efforts promote specialties enhance patient care outcomes. Further research initiatives needed ensure equitable representation fields. Addressing issues is essential improving healthcare outcomes reducing disparities.
