Aligning our actions with our words: A systematic review of gender and racial diversity in surgical subspecialties

Introduction:
Persistent
racial
and
gender
disparities
are
prevalent
within
the
higher
education
medical
training
system,
notably
seen
in
underrepresentation
of
Hispanic
or
Latinos,
Black
Americans,
female
surgeons
compared
to
their
respective
population
proportions.
This
study
aims
quantify
publications
addressing
ethnic
diversity
across
various
surgical
specialties,
analyze
publication
trends,
explore
specific
topics
literature.
Database:

Scholar,
Scopus
Methods:
Employing
Preferred
Reporting
Items
for
Systematic
Reviews
Meta-Analyses
(PRISMA),
we
conducted
a
systematic
literature
review
utilizing
databases.

broad
inclusion
criterion

plastic
surgery,
neurosurgery,
otolaryngology,
dermatology,
orthopedic
surgery
was
utilized.

Purpose
The
purpose
of
this
study
was
to
explore
the
lived
experiences
internationally
educated
nurses
(IENs)
in
USA,
focusing
on
challenges
they
faced
and
coping
strategies
used
cope
with
those
challenges,
understand
how
IENs
manage
from
lens
psychological
capital
(PsyCap)
development
for
their
well-being,
given
increasing
reliance
addressing
global
nursing
shortages.
Design/methodology/approach

interviews

backgrounds.
