The Exploration of Prolonged Mask Use on Appearance Anxiety during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Taiwan DOI Open Access

(1) Background: This study aimed to explore how prolonged mask use during the COVID-19 pandemic affected appearance anxiety; (2) Methods: It implemented a quantitative–qualitative mixed-research approach based on convenience sample of young people in Taiwan; (3) Results: A total 1,118 participants completed online questionnaire. 49 reached 55-point threshold Appearance Anxiety Scale. Higher score anxiety was correlated higher state statistically (r = 0.4, p < 0.001). Ten were interviewed and qualitative content analysis revealed 5 main themes 16 subthemes. Three related positive effects wearing masks for prevention reducing anxiety: “Wearing indicates compliance with epidemic requirement,” functions as protection against lack confidence appearance,” helps mitigate fear being judged by others.” The remaining two shifts attention from figure” “Prolonged exacerbates about taking it off” impacts long-term use; (4) Conclusions: results enhance understanding negative emotional experiences physical appearance.

Muscle dysmorphia (MD) consists of a type body dysmorphic disorder and involves distorted perception one’s muscles, strict diets, workouts. Mostly, studies focus on adult male athletes, especially bodybuilders, while research adolescents women is limited. Our study aims to explore potential protective or risk factors influencing MD, using mediation model calculated through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) at the same time help involve female individuals in exploration distress traditionally predominantly analyzed only individuals. The examines whether problematic social media use (PSMU) generalized self-efficacy (GSE) are first- second-level mediators, respectively, relationship between perceived support (PSS) MD. sample consisted 2325 both sexes aged 14–29 years. equation models were used assess effect sizes, regressions, direct indirect effects muscle general dysmorphia. results suggest that inadequate may reduce individuals’ effectiveness managing daily challenges, potentially leading media, which contribute symptoms. Nursing students represent a unique group that faces specific stressors. One of these stressors is social appearance anxiety, which can adversely affect the quality life. Personality traits are strong predictors coping with stress and anxiety. This study explored relationship between personality traits, life among nursing students. The employed correlational descriptive cross-sectional research design. thousand twenty-one from bachelor program's first, second, third, fourth years participated in study. data was collected over three months June to August 2024 by using four tools: student's academic socio-demographic profile, Novo Psych Five Factor Scale (NFFPS-30), Social anxiety about (SAAS)., WHO Quality Life Scale-Brief (WHOQOL-Brief). trait highest mean score agreeableness (21.0 ±2.8), while neuroticism has lowest (18.4 ±4.3). (SAAS) results show majority (79.5%) experience low levels. Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the effects young people’s popularity perceptions and social appearance concerns on their aesthetic procedures media. This cross-sectional conducted between November 2023 January 2024. A Personal Information Form, Popularity Perception Scale (PPS), Social Appearance Anxiety (SAAS), Aesthetic Procedure Perceptions Media (SAPPS) were used collect data. Statistically significant differences found in perceptions, anxiety levels, procedure participants based age, status having a disliked bodily/facial feature, whether they thought undergoing procedures, filters media, image manipulation programs, frequency using media platforms each day. Introduction Although the factors influencing appearance anxiety have been explored, correlation and underlying mechanisms of action between social media body talk remain unclear. This study proposes research hypotheses conducts mutual validation scale data real to explore mechanism variables. Methods A mixed-methods design was employed: 512 college students completed questionnaires containing Appearance Conversations with Friends Scale, Anxiety Scale–Brief Version, Body Surveillance Subscale Objectified Consciousness Scale. Furthermore, 1,011 actual entries were analyzed complement empirical framework. Results The results showed that students’ on networking sites, anxiety, self-objectification significantly positively correlated. sites had a significant positive predictive effect having partial mediating effect. Background Appearance anxiety has been associated with difficulties in establishing social relationships and an increased vulnerability to various psychological illnesses such as eating disorders, depression, anxiety. However, only a few studies have examined influencing factors of appearance anxiety, especially risk protective which is still lacking. Objective This study investigated the mediating role self-objectification relationship between self-esteem moderating resilience gender. Materials Methods A cross-sectional was conducted among 437 university students (203 females 234 males) aged 18–24 years (M age = 21.89, SD 1.59). The data collected using questionnaires analyzed through bivariate correlations, mediational analysis, moderated analysis. Results revealed that higher negatively predicted while significantly mediated Moderated analysis significant moderator, direct effect on both men women. Moreover, also suggested than mean levels via self-objectification. BackgroundAdolescence is a dynamic period of significant physical, emotional, and cognitive development, where individuals shape their identities influence mental health. Being vulnerable to various risk factors, including anxiety, adolescents often face disorders that can affect overall well-being. With anxiety being major concern in the global context as well Indonesia, this study aimed determine self-esteem factor developing among senior high school students. MethodsA cross-sectional was conducted involving 162 students, using proportionate stratified cluster simple random sampling. Data were collected through Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale Hamilton Anxiety Rating questionnaires measure levels, respectively. Objective: The study aims to determine the relationship between social appearance anxiety, self-esteem, and life satisfaction of individuals who have had aesthetic procedures. Materials Methods: was conducted on applied a private clinic in Samsun. involved 284 people received surgery services. data were collected online August 2022 October 2022. Study by questionnaire forms prepared Google Forms. through four forms, namely, personal introduction form, anxiety scale, Rosenberg self-esteem scale. Results: As result study, there is significant negative (r=-0.393). There weak positive correlation (r=0.168). (r=-0.173).
