The surface roughness of wood mortise and tenon seriously influence the strength mortise-and-tenon joints. However, it is difficult to obtain whole due limitation in measuring range most profilometers. Therefore, selection measured position critical tenon. This study mainly aimed investigate effects thickness direction (T1, T2, T3) length (L1, L2, L3), assembly condition (unassembled assembled) on characterize their roughness. Roughness profile results showed that average (4.53 µm) was greater than (3.89 µm), unassembled ones assembled ones. at all positions nearly identical, while for tenon, varied. T2 significantly those T1 T3. Statistical analysis an sample, sample type influenced roughness, but not significant. Assembly tenon; decreased compared with T2L1 so much T2L2 T2L3.
