The inventory and evaluation of geosites are fundamental steps any geoconservation strategies in setting priorities for the management protected areas. North-Marchean Apennines (central Italy) host an extraordinary geoheritage, making its use by society worthwhile meaningful (e.g., teaching/learning, tourism, recreation). An area 600 square kilometres embracing 18 municipalities, mainly distributed along Mt. Catria–Mt. Nerone ridge, is home to numerous spectacular geosites. purpose this study analyze environmental heritage through recognition, selection, description extensive list geosites, with a view providing useful data establishment possible geopark discussed context region that rich Among these, seven were chosen as representative processed quantitative method. calculated Q-values indicative high significance well represent great variety strong potential area. witnesses sites aesthetic value, framed from geological geomorphological point view, without neglecting additional values make these localities particularly attractive geotouristic educational purposes. finally region’s areas, conservation enhancement heritage.

A geodiversity assessment is one of the basic steps in development geoprotection activities. It important to establish parameters that quantify elements and locations abiotic nature. Here, focus on those who are richer than average population. In doing so, it possible manage areas for protection geoheritage develop sustainable activities, e.g., geotourism. The monitored territory (Slovenské rudohorie Mts.) lies southeast Slovakia occupies an area 4986 km2. based overlaying a grid onto different maps at scale 1:500,000, where final index sum six indices calculated 5 × km squares. These consist geological index, geomorphological (composed two sub-indices: subdivision morphological–morphometric types), hydrological three type aquifer, density river network, occurrence springs mineral waters), soil tectonic resources four ore, non-ore, construction, energy resources). resulting map presented form five isoline classes: very high (10% area), (28%), medium (32%), low (23%), (7%). Slovenské Mts., together with indices, creates useful tool conservation, management, sustainability programs, education national level. However, Slovak legislation does not mention concept geodiversity, its protection, valuation, restoration, or responsible usage. Only specific forms processes preserved as natural resource supporting biodiversity. The exploitation of geoheritage resources depends on their accessibility. latter is usually established for geosites, whereas reaching the areas where geosites concentrate also deserves attention. Here, a novel, multi-criteria, score-based approach assessing large-scale accessibility geoheritage-rich proposed. study takes into account various information about external and internal public transportation, road infrastructure, local services (including accommodation opportunities), general settings. This applied to Russian South, there are three areas, namely Lower Don, Abrau, Mountainous Adygeya. Using new criteria, these differ by accessibility, which excellent in Don moderate Abrau It that co-occurrence popular tourist destinations does not guarantee findings present seem be important development optimal policy, as well planning research educational activities, such currently realized geochemical investigations regular field campaigns South.

Nonetheless, the Service Morocco started identification these sites a few years ago, and published 9 volumes on subject as geological mining guides This was only limited to SGI without their characterization assessment, or threats that could affect them. In last several PhD Thesis research papers have dealed with this subject. Unfortunately, initiatives are sporadic far from establishing global strategy for geoconservation valorization Moroccan heritage. paper proposes methodology geoheritage by: i) providing detailed synthesis work world; ii) proposing ways assessing at different scales (scientific education, geotourism, sustainable development, etc.); iii) applying them wide variety landscapes The obtained results conclusions can be further extended other African regions.
