The alcohol hangover is defined as the combination of negative mental and physical symptoms that can be experienced after a single episode consumption, starting when blood concentration (BAC) approaches zero. Alcohol such fatigue, nausea, headache negatively affect daily activities, including work performance. therefore cause both absenteeism (not going to work) presenteeism (going while hungover). An online survey among convenience sample n = 347 Dutch adults examined number days associated with having well loss productivity hungover during year 2019. Quality of life (QoL) is traditionally assessed using multiple-item questionnaires. These can be either general, global assessments QoL or disease-specific However, the use single-item scales becoming increasingly popular, as these are more time- and cost-effective, with a readily available easy-to-interpret outcome. In particular, often preferred for quick (e.g., 'at home' testing mobile phone assessments), other cases when time constraints common clinical trials practice). Previous research revealed that questionnaires have same validity reliability. Here we further evaluate relationship QoL, scale, well-being, mood, health correlates immune fitness, having underlying diseases), lifestyle sleep, nutrition).

Pandemic preparedness is an important issue in relation to future pandemics. The two studies described here aimed identify factors predicting the presence and severity of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) symptoms. CLOFIT study comprised online survey among Dutch population (n = 1415). Perceived immune fitness before pandemic (2019) during first lockdown period (15 March-11 May 2020) number COVID-19 symptoms were assessed. COTEST study, conducted between December 2020 June 2021, replicated n 925 participants who tested for severe acute respiratory syndrome 2 (SARS-CoV-2) commercial test locations. revealed that was greatest predictor (20.1% 19.8%, respectively). Other significant predictors included (5.5% 7.1%, respectively), having underlying diseases (0.4% 0.5%, In those positive SARS-CoV-2, single (27.2%) (33.1%) pandemic. conclusion, strongest Therefore, development strategies maintain adequate must be regarded as essential component preparedness.

The aim of this study was to explore the effects 2019 Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown on mood states, stress, alcohol consumption and perceived immune fitness in a Dutch sample. Analysis included subsample from "Corona Lockdown: how fit are you?" (CLOFIT) study, comprising N = 761 participants who reported consuming 2020. Results show that, compared pre-lockdown, first COVID-19 (March 2020) associated with experiencing poorer (e.g., anxiety, depression, loneliness, fatigue) increased stress levels. Among younger (18 35 years old), significant decrease weekly found during lockdown, which not older individuals. For age cohort significantly correlated (r 0.163, p 0.003), turn, reporting -0.165, 0.002). Background: Activation of TLR3 receptors, which are sensitive to viral infection, has emerged as a possible mechanism that increases alcohol intake in rodents. Objectives: These studies examined whether history ethanol dependence exacerbated the increase drinking driven by agonist poly I:C.Methods: Male C57BL/6J mice (>10 per group) were given access (20% v/v) 2 hours day following home cage or after having been rendered ethanol-dependent using chronic intermittent (CIE) vapor model. After testing multiple doses, 5 mg/kg repeated I:C challenge was used probe effects immune challenge, alone conjunction with cycles CIE, on voluntary drinking. An (12% operant self-administration model test stress-induced reinstatement seeking and consumption. Results: Poly naive animals resulted transient, modest (p < 0.05). However, sensitized consumption evoked strong persistent escalation 0.05 for both). Conclusion: defense may affect sensitivity future stressors. As patients who suffer from use disorder at heightened risk this interaction could generate factors exacerbating behaviors associated Alcohol Use Disorders via an mechanism.
