To reduce errors in sub-synchronous oscillation (SSO) modal identification and improve the accuracy noise resistance of traditional Prony algorithm, this paper focuses on SSOs caused by integration doubly fed induction generators (DFIGs) with series compensation into grid. A novel SSO method based hippopotamus optimization–variational mode decomposition (HO-VMD) singular value decomposition–regularized total least squares–Prony (SVD-RTLS-Prony) algorithms is proposed. First, energy ratio function used for real-time monitoring system to identify signals. Then, address limitations VMD HO algorithm’s excellent optimization capabilities were utilized leading preliminary denoising. Finally, SVD-RTLS-improved algorithm was employed further suppress interference extract characteristics, allowing accurate modes. The performance proposed evaluated using theoretical practical models Matlab PSCAD simulation platforms. results indicate that effectively perform denoising accurately characteristics signals, confirming its effectiveness, accuracy, superiority, robustness against interference.
