Cities need to make themselves energy self-sufficient by exploiting renewable sources and, above all, evaluate the potential and constraints that each city can express virtue of its own characteristics. This study focused on how realisation a community could be approached in urbanised contexts. The methodology involved selection three case studies Rome analysing feasibility, programming design scale, implications planning RECs. Energy communities (ECs) are considered significant instruments in the energy transition toward a low-carbon world. Important elements for creation of ECs individual drivers, motivations, and barriers that could stimulate their creation. In this article, we focus on developing an understanding which aspects favor or slow down establishment community Segrate (Italy). As acceleration toward the transition to a carbon-neutral energy production becomes an urgent imperative, universities are called play multifaceted role: produce knowledge and cutting-edge research for pursuit of transition; transform infrastructures promote circular economy practices more sustainable use their building stock; citizenship through formal informal education.
