One fundamental aspect of the energy transition involves fostering active involvement citizens in system, going beyond their traditional roles as mere "consumers" or "customers." This shift hinges on individuals' perceptions and displays citizenship. While no universal consensus exists, indicators citizenship include increased awareness issues, incorporation considerations into lifestyle choices, direct participation system. Despite this acknowledgement, current literature lacks an overarching conceptual framework for understanding study employs a hybrid methodology, merging systematic integrative reviews. The objective is to explain how existing studies conceptualise citizenship, outlining key dimensions drivers literature. findings reveal that span socio-political, economic, environmental, psychological, ethical dimensions.

Youth are increasingly recognized in global arenas as critical actors for achieving sustainable development goals, including just energy transitions. Many scholars similarly argue the importance of engaging youth transitions; yet, there is limited understanding whether and how framed legitimate transitions scholarship. This paper examines recent research conceptualizes youth, specifically approached influential citizens or merely passive actors. Results show that majority does not frame per se; rather, dominant focus on literacy educating about options. followed by scholarship exploring perspectives on, testing knowledge about, different technologies, conservation behaviour, climate advocacy. Limited has focused role influence governance. Research needed at national to international scale, rationale, value added multi-lateral space, local community enabling youth's roles planning renewable projects.

The worldwide issues of climate change and energy access have pushed the transition to sustainable equitable systems forefront global awareness. Energy democracy is a term used by movement for environmental justice that unites shift renewable sources with initiatives democratize resource production control. Abstract The European energy transition is currently emphasizing advancements in regulations and technologies, with a focus also on social justice. Citizens are perceived as key players the systems, their direct involvement can contribute to wide spread of improved behaviours clean production. This paper explores Community Transition Pathways (CTPs), an innovative instrument support citizenship effectively. CTPs guide citizens through structured paths, addressing diverse communities. Grounded theories, concept integrates insights from literature policy developments. have been created within H2020 project GRETA verified six case studies across Italy, Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal. aims present result, embedding its creation current debate about pathways presenting results three studies. research’s originality lies empirical approach, citizens’ active roles processes. Successful development testing demonstrate value fostering collaboration production facilitating participatory paths. However, ongoing refinement replicability essential for sustained success. By positioning participants reshaping public decision-making, advance more inclusive impactful approach transition.
