The Effect of Green Areas on Urban Microclimate: A University Campus Model Case

Urbanization
and
the
reduction
of
green
spaces
have
significantly
contributed
to
problems
such
as
rising
temperatures
declining
air
quality
in
urban
areas.
This
study
examines
impact
different
types
areas—broadleaved
trees,
coniferous
shrubs,
vines—on
temperature
regulation
at
Recep
Tayyip
Erdoğan
University
Zihni
Derin
Campus.
Surface
temperature,
humidity,
ambient
wind
speed
measurements
were
collected
using
an
infrared
thermometer
over
a
one-year
period
under
various
climatic
conditions
(August,
October,
January,
April)
times
day
(09:00
AM,
01:00
PM,
05:00
PM).
To
quantitatively
assess
cooling
effect
each
type
area,
Response
Methodology
(RSM)
was
applied,
predictive
formula
developed
estimate
areas
environmental
conditions.
These
formulated
models
enable
estimation
provided
by
these
four
plant
based
on
input
parameters,
achieving
accuracy
approximately
92%
or
higher
without
requiring
direct
measurements.

robust
methodological
framework

Cooling
Intensity
(PCI)
by
applying
mono-window
algorithm.
found
that
parks
larger
than
1.55
hectares
dense
vegetation
water
bodies
reduced
surrounding
temperatures
up
8.28
°C.
The
PCI
effect
was
influenced

density,
presence
bodies,

demonstrating
enhanced
capacity.

This
study
investigates
the
formation
of
cold
air
pools
during
calm,
anticyclonic
winter
nights
in
a
topographic
basin
bounded
by
medium-sized
mountain
to
east
and
near-flat
terrain
elsewhere.

objective
is
understand
how
local
topography
drives
unique
topoclimatic
conditions—specifically
lakes
an
inversion
layer
at
approximately
100/120

altitude—in
peri-urban
depression
