This study investigates the effect of urban forests in reducing particulate matter (PM) concentrations and its subsequent impact on number asthma care visits. Understanding mechanisms behind relationship between greenness blocking reduction PM is crucial for assessing associated human health benefits. analyzed influencing factors long-term PM10 concentrations, utilizing vegetation index meteorological variables. Results showed that began 2011, five years after establishment forest. The annual mean decreased significantly, driven primarily by summer wind speed Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI), explaining approximately 62% variation. A decrease visits was observed, similar to trend residential area increase influx into city, prevailing northwesterly winds, may have been mitigated growing forest, contributing a asthma-related medical among residents. In particular, since onset COVID-19 pandemic 2020, PM2.5/PM10 ratio areas has become more closely linked It suggests another PM2.5 emission source area. children (under 11) elderly (over 65) exhibited strong positive correlation with levels negative Normalized Difference (NDVI). link air quality improvement from their capacity capture respiratory outcomes, especially vulnerable groups asthma. These findings highlight need manage pollutant sources such as transportation heating system beyond industrial emissions point pollution source. management policies focus protecting populations, elderly, implementing small-sized adsorb within city establishing prevent near complex.

The economic value of forests as public goods is often underestimated. This study evaluates the benefit air quality improvement by in South Korea from 2014 to 2020. monetary improvement, particularly five pollutants (i.e., SO2, NO2, PM10, PM2.5, and O3), has gradually increased KRW 6.0767 trillion 6.5511 2017. However, decreased 5.8712 2018 5.2597 2020, possibly due a decrease forest area pollutant concentrations. In following COVID-19 pandemic, concentrations remarkably previous year. For more objective assessment, it necessary examine total green space, including facilities urban forests, which are not included national data used study. Furthermore, key assessment items such percentage vegetation cover, deposition rate, removal costs should be modified adapted domestic conditions. To this end, monitoring on impacts utilized order facilitate function at different temporal spatial scales.
