Abstract Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global health challenge requiring cross-sector action, with research largely focused on chickens, leaving ducks underexplored. This study examines AMR dynamics in Ross 308 broilers and Cherry Valley over 15 months stocking periods under consistent rearing conditions. A total of 96 pooled samples were collected: 50 from broiler farms (26 biological, 24 environmental) 46 duck (24 22 environmental). Using next-generation shotgun sequencing, 3,665 distinct types identified: 1,918 1,747 ducks. Host-specific AMRs comprised 25.3% 18% ducks, while 56.7% shared. diversity declined across production phases, losing 641 308, yet frequencies increased significantly by the finisher phase ( p < 0.0001). Based silico data, prophylactic antibiotic use reduced prevalence multidrug-resistant bacteria both poultry species 0.05). Hospital-acquired infection-associated higher than at start but end period Above-average markers accounted for approximately 10% all detected determinants. Tetracycline phenicol resistances emerged as most prevalent. 13 high-resistance carrier (HRC) shared between hosts. Broiler-specific HRCs exhibited abundances (relative frequency: 0.08) duck-specific 0.003, = 0.035). The grower critical intervention point. In farm environments broiler-specific 9 biomarker identified, each strongly correlated poultry-core (correlation coefficient > 0.7). Broiler key genes, tetracycline predominantly associated Bacteroides coprosuis , Pasteurella multocida Acinetobacter baumannii . Despite its limitations, this provides insights into trends two major types, guiding targeted interventions sustainable management strategies.

This study evaluated the antimicrobial potential of a Bacillus subtilis spore-based probiotic cocktail to reduce foodborne pathogens in both nutrient-rich laboratory media and complex food matrix (hummus). Three common pathogens—Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli O157:H7, Salmonella Typhimurium—were cultured individually full-strength, half-strength, quarter-strength tryptic soy broth (TSB) with or without spores (~7 log CFU/mL). Additionally, commercial hummus formulation was inoculated L. monocytogenes (~3 CFU/g) B. stored at 30 °C simulate temperature abuse. In TSB, E. grew ~8.2 CFU/mL full-strength media, no significant inhibition by probiotics. However, showed substantial suppression: nutrient-limited viable counts dropped below detection limit 1.48 24 h presence hummus, an average 8.22 CFU/g absence probiotics but remained significantly lower 5.03 when co-inoculated (p < 0.05). Germination confirmed within 6 under all conditions. These findings suggest that selectively inhibit Listeria, particularly nutrient stress abuse While had limited impact on Gram-negative pathogens, its application may serve as clean-label strategy for suppressing ready-to-eat (RTE) foods. dual-model approach provides insights into mechanistic activity practical limitations spore matrices.

Bacillus subtilis is widely recognized as a beneficial and safe microbe for both living species the environment due to its broad spectrum of bioactive properties. Used decades probiotic, B. produces diverse metabolites with antimicrobial, antitumor, antioxidant, immunomodulatory activities. It forms resilient biofilms, sporulates under stress, promotes plant growth, enhances nutrient uptake, controls pathogens, contributes bioremediation environmental pollutants such heavy metals hydrocarbons. Its long-standing use in food fermentation supports safety profile recognition organism various applications. Consequently, stands out promising candidate achieving optimal “One Health” outcomes humans, animals, plants, their interconnected ecosystems. This chapter provides biochemical classification derivatives produced by subtilis, highlighting properties functions that offer health benefits organisms environment.

Heat stress (HS) has become a major concern for the poultry industry in many countries. HS impacts gut health by causing damaged mucosal microstructures, increased oxidative stress, weakened immunity, and heightened permeability to toxins pathogens. We investigated potential benefits broiler chickens subjected of dietary supplementation with Bacillus subtilis 14823. Growth performance, barrier integrity, expressions inflammatory cytokines were analyzed. The results indicated that B. spores at concentrations 1 × 10

Probiotics are defined as live microorganisms that confer health advantages to their hosts. Some probiotics exhibit limitations, including susceptibility temperature fluctuations, gastric acidity, and harsh conditions. This has led exploring with higher intrinsic resistance stability in Bacillus subtilis received attention due its inherent probiotic properties, high conditions, ability form spores. Significant progress been made understanding the potential of B. subtilis, uncovering various mechanisms action. On other hand, postbiotics secreted by have become an attractive field interest for scientists. Numerous studies validated efficacy a dietary supplement poultry aquaculture. Furthermore, Food Drug Administration (FDA) recognized safe. These advantageous properties position highly promising applications.
