Biological aging and its association with serum neurofilament light chain levels in middle-aged African Americans: a prospective observational study

This
study
examines
the
association
between
DNA
methylation-based
epigenetic
aging
indices
and
neurofilament
light
chain
levels
in
middle-aged
African
Americans
to
advance
understanding
of
neurodegeneration
cognitive
decline.
Epigenetic
was
assessed
samples
from
2008
2019
by
applying
HorvathAgeAccel,
HannumAgeAccel,
PhenoAgeAccel,
GrimAgeAccel,
DunedinPACE.
Controlling
for
financial
strain,
exercise,
age,
gender,
cell-type
composition,
APOE-ε4
,
second-
third-generation
aging—PhenoAgeAccel,
DunedinPACE—were
significantly
associated
with
serum
levels.
In
contrast,
first-generation
clocks,
including
HorvathAgeAccel
were
not
related
chain.
These
findings
suggest
that
newer
are
more
strongly
neurodegenerative
biomarkers.
Integrating
advanced
clocks
may
improve
early
detection
decline
dementia,
supporting
personalized
medicine
identifying
biological
profiles
linked
risks.

The
relationship
of
heavy
alcohol
consumption
(HAC)
and
smoking
to
mortality
in
those
with
CHD,
mechanisms
through
which
these
effects
are
elicited

clear.

we
examined
the
Alcohol
T-Scores
(ATS),
an
epigenetic
biomarker

HAC,

acute
syndrome
(ACS).

found
that
65%
had
ATS
values
indicative
HAC.

Heavy
