Health-related behaviours have been related to brain structural features. In developing settings, such as Latin America, high social inequality has inversely associated with several health-related affecting development. Understanding the relationship between health and structure in settings is particularly important during adolescence when critical habits are acquired ingrained. this cross-sectional study, we carry out a multimodal analysis identifying region (i.e., adiposity, fitness, sleep problems others) cognitive/academic performance, independent of socioeconomic status large sample Chilean adolescents. Our findings suggest that performance involves particular phenotype could play mediator role. These fill significant gap literature, which largely focused on developed countries raise possibility promoting healthy means influence thereby achievement, independently factors. By highlighting potential impact policymakers design interventions more effective reducing disparities countries.

Preschool children spend a large part of their day at school, and that time they in sedentary time. Although negatively affects regions the brain responsible for cognition, it is believed type performed can favor executive functions' performance. The present study explored associations between inside outside preschools with function (EF) tasks preschoolers. Seventy-three preschool (60% girls; 55.0 ± 9.1 months age) were objectively assessed physical activity (PA) using accelerometers (wGT3X). EF was evaluated Go/No-Go paradigm through Early Years Toolbox – YET. Go's inverse efficiency (IE) No-Go accuracy analyzed. To establish possible time, structural equation model conducted after adjustments sex, age, body mass index, moderate-to-vigorous PA. A significant positive association on weekend days IE (b = 0.61; p < .001) observed. general explained 52% variation 2.1% No-Go. seems to be related worse EI. This result emphasizes context-dependent being preschoolers' EF. Further investigations should focus exploring behavior are engaged different contexts.

Objective To determine how cognitive domains mediate the link between fitness components, their global score (GFS), and adolescents’ academic achievement (ACA) across various school subjects. Methods In this study, 1,296 adolescents aged 10–14 participated. GFS was computed by three components (strength, muscular, cardiorespiratory fitness) through ALPHA-fitness test battery. ACA determined five subjects (Language, English, Mathematics, Science, History) two scores (a) “Academic Average” (five subjects) (b) “Academic-PISA” Science). A principal component analysis performed to establish four factors (working memory [WM], flexibility [ CF ], inhibitory control [IC], fluid reasoning [FR]). parallel mediation approach implemented with 5,000 bootstrapped samples controlled for sex, maturity, central obesity, having breakfast before tasks, schools, vulnerability. Total, direct, indirect effects, percentages were estimated. Results Overall, finding showed a full effect Language (92.5%) English (53.9%), while partial Mathematics (43.0%), Science (43.8%), History (45.9%), (50.6%), (51.5%). particular, WM, IC, FR mediated all except mathematics, where IC not significant. has any relationship GF performance. Conclusion This study underscores pivotal role of domains, specifically FR, in mediating physical performance adolescents. These insights have relevant implications educational public health policies.

Excessive adolescent sedentary behaviors (SBs) may affect cognitive-academic achievements; however, findings vary according to the SB evaluated and their mental requirements. This study aimed understand multivariate association between different SBs diverse achievements as a primary analysis. As secondary one, we differentiated mentally active inactive SBs. In this study, 1296 Chilean adolescents (10–14 years old) reported via questionnaires. Cognitive performance was assessed with neurocognitive battery, academic achievement based on school grades. Canonical correlation analysis performed determine mode of covariation (MofC) two sets variables. The first set accounted for eight (five considered "active mentally" three "inactive mentally"). second 13 cognitive variables (eight tasks five subjects). Several covariates cluster (schools, k = 19) were also included in revealed single significant MofC, small canonical relationship (r 0.22, p 0.002). MofC indicated that time spent using computers engaging scholarly at home positively correlated processing speed well scores English History. Secondary modes covariation. confirmed result 0.21, 0.001), while highlighted role playing video games sole contributing factor linked inhibitory control 0.17, 0.034). These indicate positive certain achievements, emphasizing need further comprehensive research these complex relationships.

Objective This study aims to determine the mediating role of physical fitness in relationship between fatness indicators and academic achievement, exploring influence school vulnerability. Methods A total 1,296 Chilean adolescents (aged 10 14 years; 50% girls) participated this study. The global score (GFS) was obtained by adding three main components ALPHA test: cardiorespiratory (CRF), muscular (MF), speed/agility (SAF). CRF evaluated through 20 m shuttle run test; MF upper lower limb strength tests; SAF 4 × test. BMIz WHtR were as general (unspecific) central (specific) indicators. Academic achievement established grades math, language, science their average scores. Multiple mediation analyses performed according two models, adjusted for sex, maturity, schools (model 1), model 2, vulnerability index (SVI) added. SVI is an important proxy socioeconomic status at level, it categorized high-, mid-, or low-SVI. Mediation percentages calculated, confidence intervals (bootstrapping) used establish significant findings. Results CRF, SAF, GFS mediate both partially totally (ranging from 12.7 59.2%). However, did not show any effect. After controlling SVI, GFS, changed partial associations math with WHtR. Although contributed mediation, seems have most all achievements, regardless fat indicator studied. Conclusion higher level fitness, especially significantly mediates detrimental on schoolchildren. suggests that plays a relevant public health, considering high prevalence obesity children adolescents.

The aim of this study was to compare academic achievement, cognitive performance, playtime, bullying, and discrimination in adolescents according traditional uniforms (TUs) sports (SUs) worn at school, while simultaneously exploring the influence school vulnerability index. A total 988 Chilean (52.6% boys) aged 10-14 years participated cross-sectional study. Academic achievement evaluated by average grade maths, language, science grades, performance assessed through eight tasks. TUs affecting physical activity, were queried. Mixed model analyses performed. No differences observed (TU: 5.4 ± 0.1 vs. SU: 5.5 0.2, p = 0.785) or 99.6 0.8 98.9 1.8, p= 0.754) uniformtype. Moreover, 64.1 % participants declared that wearing TU affects their activity (traditional uniforms: + 8 min 20 min), those who believed so spent more time playing than answered negatively (14.5 min, 0.012). Finally, SU displayed a lower feeling bullying discrimination; finding depended mainly on school's vulnerability. It is concluded does not show an educational advantage level justifies its obligation. In addition, it could be suggested schools consider adolescents' opinions adopting comfortable uniform, such as SU. This feasible low-cost measure would help increase during day, and, contrary belief, related increased feelings discrimination.

Global concern has deepened in recent decades over alarming rates of obesity, sedentarism, insufficient physical activity and fitness levels, unhealthy eating habits children adolescents. Parallelly, we have witnessed increased poverty socioeconomic vulnerability worldwide. Understanding the intrinsic relationship between cognitive health is crucial, mounting evidence suggests a significant association. However, 80% existing data originate from high-income countries, representing negligible fraction world's children. UNICEF projections indicate that by 2030, low- low-middle-income countries will be home to approximately 63% global child adolescent population. This highlights substantial knowledge gap which Cogni-Action Project, conducted Chile, helps address. Notably, Chile faces challenges, with overweight-obesity reaching 54%, ranking highest inactivity, sugary soft-drink consumption, educational scores stagnant. Moreover, wealth inequality stark, top 10% population owning 77% wealth. The Chilean Project collected comprehensive three years (2017-2019) 1,296 schoolchildren (10-14 old) Valparaíso region. These encompassed 789 variables spanning physical, psychosocial, cognitive, lifestyle factors, as well neuroimaging variables. present article aims contextualize showcase this project based on papers published date. As universities research institutions worldwide pursue similar endeavors, necessity arises share findings methodologies expedite development can inform public policy shape agendas pertinent institutions.
