This paper investigates the spatial distribution of small plastic litter on beach Kuala Perlis and Pulau Langkawi in northern region Peninsular Malaysia. The objectives are to ascertain categories macro marine macroplastic types, amount microplastic sediment layer, relationship between microplastic. Macro was collected 100-meter transects at six different locations. Sediment samples for identification were using a quadrat measuring 0.5 m × with depth 0.05 m. Plastic accounts up most (73.8%), followed by glass (12%), fabric (7.8%), rubber (4.4%), wood (2%), metal (0.07%). Between 2018 2020, overall weight (>5 mm) (<5 beaches 80.371 g/m2 11.094 g/m3, respectively. In this investigation, surface ranged from 0.02 g 14.09 g/m2, while 0 1.192 g/m3. packaging category seems have highest percentage macroplastic. At 95% confidence level, calculated R2 0.7444 indicates substantial association linear regression equation is y = 0.1927x + 0.0226, representing (g/m3) x being (g/m2). strong link demonstrates that presence strongly related abundance beach. finding provides good approximation actual occurrence abundance, which will be useful environmental evaluation management approaches.

Estuaries act as significant pathways for plastic waste entry into the oceans, with microplastics (MPs) being intricately influenced by river and coastal hydrodynamics. MPs become entrapped within estuaries during transport, particularly at river–sea interface, which impacted tidal fluctuations. However, few studies have examined role of impacts variations on microplastic abundance export flux interface across contrasting hydrological regimes (dry vs. wet seasons). In this study, we conducted observations to assess abundance, composition, in Suixi Estuary Zhanjiang Bay, China The results indicated an overall mean 91.1 ± 75.0 items/L, was linked variations, decreasing high tides increasing low tides. Transparent color, fibrous shape, a size range 100–330 μm were most prevalent characteristics water samples. diversity higher season compared dry season. addition, influx about 1.61 × 109 items/year from sea both seasons. Additionally, regimes, forces, human activities identified influence flux. This quantitative analysis establishes mechanistic framework understanding estuarine providing critical baseline data developing targeted pollution management strategies ecosystems.

Mangroves are considered to be a sink for microplastics (MPs) due their unique characteristics. Previous studies mainly focused on the spatial distribution of MPs, but few researchers have addressed influence tidal variation this distribution, especially since MP total number in mangroves was unknown. In study, surface sediment samples were collected from Beibu Gulf, South China Sea, and abundance, composition, MPs investigated. The results showed that widely present all mangrove samples, with abundances ranging 26.67 ± 9.43 239.94 37.80 items/kg. heterogeneous among different sampling sites, highest levels Shankou (SK) area. abundance same forest gradually increased low zone high zone, enrichment factor 1.50 4.00. significantly correlated particulate organic carbon (POC) ( n = 12, R 0.664, p < 0.05). Results had an interception effect factors affecting sediments included not only tides also human activities, such as aquaculture, agriculture, residential life. Finally, paper estimated at areas zones, middle more accurate pollution assessment mangroves.

Increasingly serious microplastic pollution in coastal areas and the ecological threats associated with plastics have attracted global attention. The frequency intensity of typhoons increased owing to warming, strongly influencing distribution composition microplastics ecosystems. In this study, abundance, composition, diversity, flux three estuaries one sewage outlet Zhanjiang Bay (ZJB) were analyzed. average abundance from land-based sources 3.6-fold 14.19 ± 3.60 items/L before Typhoon Kompasu 51.19 28.53 after typhoon (p < 0.05). addition, proportion fiber large typhoon. all samples, 100–330 μm size predominant, blue was most abundant color. diversity color Kompasu. total daily at four stations entering ZJB 3.95 × 1011 items 9.93 typhoon, showing a 2.5-fold increase. This study demonstrated influence on waters provided vital data for further MP water ecosystems impact microplastics.

Estuaries and sewage outlets are key pathways for the transport of microplastics (MPs) from land to coastal waters. In this study, spatiotemporal pattern, composition, flux MPs transported Zhanjiang Bay (ZJB) in South China Sea were investigated. The results showed that overall mean MP abundance (± standard deviation) was 17.99 ± 9.72 items/L, with highest normal season, followed by dry wet seasons. Fibers most dominant shape these samples, blue common color, ranged between 100 330 μm. diversity higher seasons than season. seasonal observed during accounting 79.68%, largest contribution Suixi River. There a significant positive relationship annual river discharge (R² = 0.95, p< 0.001). Hydrological processes, human behavior, weather conditions factors contributed toward variation MPs. Overall, aim study provide baseline information on pollution ZJB help formulate control strategies improving regional water quality mitigating its pollution. future, can be used assess role basins transporting estuaries ocean.

This study analyzed the distribution characteristics and sources of pollutants in coastal estuaries Zhanjiang Bay (ZJB) to provide theoretical data support for scientific prevention control bay pollution. Monitoring from eight rivers flood drains flowing into ZJB March 2021 were used analyze composition spatial polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) phthalate esters (PAEs) water bodies bay. The dominant components 3–4-ring PAHs, with Bis (2-ethylhexyl) (DEHP), Diisobutyl (DIBP), Dibutyl-O-phthalate (DBP) being main PAE compounds. Higher pollutant levels observed residential areas, aquaculture zones, industrial areas. Eigen-ratio analysis principal component identify pollution sources, including atmospheric inputs (coal, petroleum products, biomass combustion products), offshore pollution, plastic sources. assessment showed that contributed 89.75% total PAHs bay, coal accounting 62.12% fuel 27.63%. content ΣPAEs ranged 588.43 1427.26 ng·L−1, a mean value 906.59 which is at low medium level compared other regions China abroad, indicating medium-low risk. results this have important implications guiding urban development, adjusting energy consumption structures, planning measures ZJB.
