Understanding sensescapes and restorative effects of nature-based destinations: a mixed-methods approach DOI

Nature is restorative for people suffering from stress and mental fatigues. While studies advocate to investigate effects of nature a multi-sensory perspective, this study also reveals mechanisms how various aspects sensescapes differentially influence visitors' experience in nature, especially with different degrees reduced outdoor exposure during the Covid-19 pandemic. Using mixed-methods approach that combined survey questionnaire, in-depth interviews, real-time GPS loggers, portable sound level sensors, eye-tracking technique, revealed while visualscape, smellscape haptiscape prominently influenced attention restoration, soundscape indirectly restoration through positive emotions. Outdoor tourism can provide nature therapies. Implementation research for mental healthcare aims to establish psychological mechanisms and specify designs, doses durations medical trials. As one component, we tested simultaneous links from senses emotions, emotions self-perceived wellbeing, 524 tourists at 27 forest reserves in China. We used quantitative surveys, person, with: 5-point Likert-type scales measure links; free-text descriptions of their most memorable sensory emotional experiences during these visits; 7-item Personal Wellbeing Index (PWI) 10-item Kessler stress index (K10) health wellbeing. found that Chinese perceive strongly (p < 0.00001) drive determine Senses reported were: sight by 86%, sound 36%, smell 41%, touch 18%, temperature 42%, humidity 20%. Recent studies have underscored the importance of tourism in enhancing individuals’ mental well-being through engagement with nature. This article examines impact nature-based on alleviating symptoms depression, anxiety, and stress among a group 67 university students who exhibited extremely severe levels these disorders. Participants were assessed both before after nature experience Tinajillas Río Gualaceño Protected Forest, Ecuador. Mental health changes evaluated using DASS-21 scale, assessments conducted pre- post-activity, revealing significant reductions levels, large clinically relevant effect sizes. Stress and anxiety are common mental health problems among undergraduate students. This study investigated the level of stress students during their travel. The used a survey method using questionnaires statistical data analysis. This article investigates the transformative impacts of regular nature-based adventure activity engagement and its long-lasting effects on eudaimonic well-being (EWB), specifically mental health. Although extant research highlights a wide range health benefits from participation in such pursuits, less is known about experienced outdoor enthusiasts for whom fundamental transformational part their lives. The study builds an existing conceptual framework that synthesizes pertinent concepts subjective benefits. Rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta), the iconic species of genus Macaca, is characterized by greatest geographical distribution all nonhuman primates and an important resource in many wildlife-related tourism areas, especially China. In current study, genetic diversity was assessed ten microsatellite loci with DNA obtained from muscle tissue deceased individuals free-ranging but tourist-habituated rhesus population naturally inhabiting Wulongkou Scenic Area, Jiyuan, China, where they have been exploited for since early 1980s. The results showed that studied relatively lower compared its wild captive counterparts, samples collected subdivision area could mask finding. Therefore, we proposed a group-based study would help to clarify structure/diversity macaques this area, then reasonable management recommendations be provided sustainable development local wildlife-dominated tourism.
