OBJECTIVE: This paper discusses the past and present highlights of working hours health research identifies key needs for future. METHOD: We analyzed over 220 original articles reviews on in Scandinavian Journal Work, Environment & Health published during last 50 years. Key publications from other journals were also included. RESULTS: The majority identified focussed effects shift night work, with fewer studying long reduced work time control. observed a transition small-scale experimental intensive field studies to large-scale epidemiological utilizing precise exposure assessment, reflecting recent emergence register-based datasets development analytic methods alternative study designs randomized controlled designs. cumulative findings provide convincing evidence that hours, which are often associated insufficient recovery, increase risk poor sleep fatigue, sickness absence, occupational injuries, several chronic conditions such as cardiovascular diseases cancer. risks strongly modified by individual work-related factors. CONCLUSIONS: Although mostly low or moderate, widespread prevalence hazardousness many potential outcomes makes arrangements major risks. Further is needed identify exposure–response associations, especially relation effects, elucidate underlying pathways effective personalized intervention strategies.

Addressing challenges associated with time-consuming scheduling crucial to ensure nurses’ quality, optimal staffing levels, and increased job satisfaction. This study compared quality from both organizational individual perspectives after implementation Inha University Hospital Nursing Artificial Intelligence (AI) Scheduling System (IH-NASS), analyze factors influencing shift nurses' satisfaction, focusing on their perception IH-NASS quality. Methods In total, 253 nurses 14 nurse managers wards where was implemented at a tertiary university hospital in Korea were selected. Data traditional manual schedules (December 2022, retrospective study) IH-NASS-generated 2023, prospective compared. The general characteristics, perceptions (convenience, fairness), satisfaction surveyed analyzed. Results Organizationally, schedules, ones significantly reduced number less than one year experience day shifts. From an perspective, Night-Off-Evening (NOE) shifts lower. Additionally, had more consecutive off days (≥ 2), 2) following two or night shifts, Saturday-Sunday days, Sunday while weekday unsocial hours fewer. Factors among included IH-NASS, IH-NASS’ perceived convenience, NOE under unhealthy scheduling, together accounting approximately 27% variance Conclusion provides empirical evidence supporting use AI systems scheduling. Specifically, AI-based can optimize workforce allocation maintaining enhancing positive perceptions, improving Trial Registration Not applicable. not clinical trial.
