Abstract Purpose Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in older persons is influenced by physical and mental health, as well their social contacts support. Older women men have disparate types networks; they each value ties differently experience loneliness unique personal ways. The aim this study is, therefore, to determine the longitudinal association between isolation with HRQOL people—separated gender. Methods Data stem from third fourth follow-up ESTHER study—a population-based cohort population Germany. A sample 2171 (mean age: 69.3 years, range 57–84 years) were included study; was assessed using Short Form-12 questionnaire (SF-12). on loneliness, networks examined course comprehensive home visits trained doctors. Gender-specific linear regression analyses performed predict (measured PCS, component score SF-12) MCS, score) after three adjusted socioeconomic variables physical, mental, well-being. Results At baseline, PCS 41.3 (SD: 10.0) 42.2 9.6) ( p = .04). MCS 47.0 10.2) 49.6 8.6) < .001). In both genders, lower years later. Loneliness at t0 negatively associated (t1) among women, but not men. strongest predictor .001), while predictors t0. Conclusion elderly predicted different biopsychosocial factors. predicts decreased only women. Thus, a greater impact health can be surmised should therefore considered context medical care.

Objective To examine the association of older adults’ loneliness, life satisfaction, and other psychological stressors resources with oral health status. Methods This study merged 2018 data from Health Retirement Study (HRS) CORE survey HRS-Dental Module, Psychosocial Lifestyle Questionnaire–Panel A “Leave Behind” surveys (HRS-LB)( N = 418). Dental Module outcomes interest were self-rated status (SROH), health-related quality (OHQOL). Older adults reported on perceived age, social status, control, mastery, chronic stressors. Three distinct profiles based distribution loneliness satisfaction previously identified in combined HRS HRS-LB population ( 4,703) using latent class analysis (LCA). Class A:“Not Lonely/Satisfied” had fewest psychosocial risk factors most resources; C:“Lonely/Unsatisfied” exhibited opposite profile (most factors, resources); B:“Lonely/Satisfied” favorable satisfaction. Regression models examined associations between LCA classes fair/poor SROH OHQOL scale score individual items, after adjusting for socio-demographics. Results About 13% experienced about 16% low one-quarter (28%) SROH, they more than their counterparts better Nearly half categorized n 201), each 103) 112). In fully adjusted models, B 1.81 (1.11–2.96) times greater odds C 4.64 (2.78–7.73) A. Fully linear regression model results indicated a gradient by class. varied; best (lowest) (mean 8.22, 4.37–12.10), scored middle 12.00, 7.61–16.50), while worst (highest) 16.20, 11.80–20.60). Conclusion Loneliness, as defining characteristic distinguishing three adults, was associated poorer outcomes. vary widely matter OHQOL.

Background Multimorbidity is one of the biggest challenges faced by modern medicine, especially when managing older patients who are also often taking multiple medications. influenced social determinants health, giving rise to health inequalities in population. Here, we sought determine influence on quality life with multimorbidity and polypharmacy. Methods materials This cross-sectional observational study included 573 aged 65–74 (≥3 diseases) polypharmacy (≥5 drugs). Corresponding data was taken drawn from Spanish MULTIPAP study, demographic variables, health-related overall self-perceived status, assessed using 5-level version EuroQol 5-dimensional questionnaire (EQ-5D-5L). Descriptive, bivariate multivariate analyses logistic regression models were performed. Results Mean patient age 69.7 years, 55.8% female, 59.7% belonged low classes (V, VI), a monthly income €1051–€1850 predominated, median number diseases same 6. Factors associated higher (odds ratio, OR) male gender (OR = 1.599, p 0.013), educational level 1.991, 0.036), an absence urban vulnerability 1.605, 0.017), presence medium support 1.689, 0.017). Having poorer 0.912, Conclusions Our findings describe associations between years More illnesses, female gender, lower education level, vulnerability, less life, underscoring need for biopsychosocial approach care.

To identify combinations of loneliness and social isolation their associations with demographic, health, psychosocial variables in a nationally representative sample Brazilians aged 50 older. This cross-sectional study included 6139 participants from the baseline (2015-2016) Brazilian Longitudinal Study Aging. Clusters were identified using an exploratory non-hierarchical analysis (k-means), odds ratios occurrence estimated by multinomial logistic regression. 36% classified as lonely/not isolated, 19.4% lonely/isolated, 44.5% not isolated. The belonging to 'lonely/not isolated' cluster lower for males higher those more depressive symptoms, life satisfaction quality scores, poor mobility. being 'lonely/isolated' individuals 80 years or older, levels participation, education, expectations care, satisfaction, perceived life. Measures aimed at reducing should be tailored characteristics each cluster. would benefit measures that reduce socioeconomic disadvantages throughout create opportunities interaction old age.

Telepresence robots can enhance social connection and support person-centered care in long-term (LTC) homes. This study evaluates their impact facilitating virtual visits between family caregivers older residents Canadian LTC were placed residents’ rooms, allowing at mutual convenience. A total of 18 17 participated. Quantitative assessments included the Zarit Burden Interview, De Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale, Quality Life Alzheimer’s Disease scale, while qualitative data collected through interviews, field notes, observations. Repeated ANOVA showed that using telepresence significantly reduced caregiver burden (p = 0.008), improved quality life 0.028), decreased resident loneliness 0.038). Older experienced greatest reduction, with scores dropping from a mean 25.0 baseline to 16.1 two months. Qualitative findings provided further context, revealing felt more connected, close, engaged, families found facilitated continuity care, complemented in-person visits, stress guilt, reassurance. These suggest well-being both homes, though future research should explore technological limitations.

Abstract Loneliness has long been associated with poor health outcomes. However, few studies have considered the dynamic nature of loneliness over time.
