Porphyrins are an important class of ligands with a tremendous ability to capture metal ions closely related the rich coordination chemistry porphyrins. Herein we use this characteristic develop silica gel grafted derivatives for water remediation applications. Therefore, two porphyrin derivatives, one three and other four mercaptopyridyl units were on functionalized 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane. The new adsorbents Si3PyS Si4PyS characterized using suitable set techniques confirming covalent attachment porphyrins surface. Additionally, microscopy N2 adsorption analysis confirmed structural integrity preservation mesoporous structure Si during surface modification. results show that both hybrid materials exhibit good chemical thermal stability outstanding Cu2+ removal capability, capacity 176.32 mg g–1 184.16 g–1, respectively. These have also been used in real industrial wastewater samples minimal interference their capabilities. Density Functional Theory calculations performed confirm performance towards ions. functionalization porphyrin-based bearing additional binding motifs drastically improves capability hybrids presence pyridyl brings meaningful advantage, since core appended groups able high affinity, contributing enhancement chelating features prepared when compared supported silica-based materials.
