Abstract Wearable technology and daily diaries offer insights into everyday behaviors that can further health research treatment globally. However, the use of these methodologies outside high-income settings has been limited. We conducted two pilot studies enrolled 60 young women in urban slums Kampala, Uganda to understand design considerations associated with using wearable this context. Each participant was asked wear a activity tracker complete diary questionnaires for 5 days. In the post-COVID-19 era, depressive disorders among youth have risen significantly, creating an urgent need for accessible, cost-effective mental health interventions. This study adapts Group Support Psychotherapy into Tele-Support (TSP) via mobile phones. It aims to evaluate its feasibility, acceptability, effectiveness, and cost-efficiency in addressing mild moderate depression central Uganda. will use a mixed-methods approach, starting with qualitative phase adapt Guided by ecological theories Unified Theory of Acceptance Use Technology (UTAUT), focus group discussions interviews youth, professionals, stakeholders inform development youth-tailored call platform integrated Rocket Health Africa's telehealth services. Background Individuals in Uganda's urban slums have unmet mental health needs due to limited healthcare infrastructure, poor environmental conditions, and extreme poverty. Researchers often use wearable devices measure factors associated with including sleep, physical activity, exposure stressors. However, the of wearables for research purposes low-resource settings is limited. This pilot study investigated feasibility acceptability accompanying daily diaries assess sleep other indicators young women living Kampala's slums. Methods Women ( n = 60 total, two groups) aged 18–24 three participated 5-day protocols comprised wearing Garmin vívoactive 3 smartwatches completing concerning activities. Participants completed surveys about their experiences. We based analyses on survey findings data completeness. Results All participants responded diaries. but one reported device nonstop 51 had recoverable heart rate median coverage 93.2%. Most (87.5%) recorded 5 days without running out battery. Some (8.5%) found uncomfortable during day, 25% it at night. Few (6.7%) feeling unsafe wearable, most reports occurring prior availability bracelet-like covers. Conclusions Study implementing complimentary are feasible this population. important contextual participant researcher training safety concerns warrant additional considerations acceptable utilization settings.
