The anthropogenic environment and diet introduce many metals into the human body, both essential toxic. Absorption leads to systemic exposure accumulation in body fluids tissues. Both excess deficiency of trace elements are health hazards. primary aim present study was evaluate concentration 51 liver samples 11 selected brain regions obtained at post-mortem examination from a population adults living south-eastern Poland (n = 15). A total 180 analyses were performed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry two independent replicates. collected data show very high individual variability content investigated elements. Macroelements such as sodium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, iron, zinc occurred highest concentrations with greatest statistically significant variations. Although elemental differed significantly, strongest positive correlation between polus frontalis observed for element selenium (0.9338) negative one manganese (-0.4316) lanthanum (-0.5110). areas studied have different requirements manganese, molybdenum. In addition, males had significantly (p < 0.05) higher lanthanides actinides than females. results this that inhabitants exposed fairly uniform aluminum vanadium brain, which affinity thalamus dorsalis. This result proves there is environmental these

The multifactorial etiology of major depressive disorder (MDD) includes biological, environmental, genetic, and psychological aspects. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in metallomic studies psychiatry, aiming to evaluate the role chosen trace elements MDD as well progression symptoms. This narrative review aims summarize available literature on relationship between concentration serum patients with onset this psychiatric condition. authors reviewed PubMed, Web Science, Scopus databases searching for that had investigated so far further evaluated them paper. Ultimately, 15 were evaluated, namely, zinc, magnesium, selenium, iron, copper, aluminium, cadmium, lead, mercury, arsenic, calcium, manganese, chromium, nickel, phosphorus. association psychiatry developing dynamically recently. Prenatal exposure to metals has been associated with impaired neurodevelopment in children, but the detailed molecular mechanisms remain largely unknown. Based on Wuhan Healthy Baby Cohort, China (N = 1088), eleven were measured maternal urine during early pregnancy (13.1 ± 1.1 weeks) and metabolomics profiling was conducted cord blood. Neurodevelopment evaluated using Bayley Scales of Infant Development 2-year-old children obtain mental development index (MDI) psychomotor (PDI). After false discovery rate correction, higher urinary levels manganese, nickel, aluminum, rubidium, gallium, summary score only significantly lower MDI scores. The weighted quantile sum metal mixture showed a significant inverse association PDI scores, aluminum contributing most associations. Histidine, beta-alanine, purine, pyrimidine metabolism mediated above associations, suggesting that disturbances amino acids, neurotransmitter neuroendocrine may be important mediators children. linked underlying are unclear. Here, authors show neurotransmitters, mediate association.

The widespread adoption of metal implants in orthopaedics and dentistry has revolutionized medical treatments, but concerns remain regarding their biocompatibility, toxicity, immunogenicity. This study conducts a comprehensive literature review traditional biomaterials used orthopaedic surgery traumatology, with particular focus on historical development biological interactions. Research articles were gathered from PubMed Web Science databases using keyword combinations such as “toxicity, irritation, allergy, biomaterials, corrosion, implants, surgery, biocompatible materials, steel, alloys, material properties, applications, implantology, surface modification”. An initial pool 400 was screened by independent reviewers based predefined inclusion exclusion criteria, resulting 160 relevant covering research 1950 to 2025. paper explores the electrochemical processes metals like iron, titanium, aluminium, cobalt, molybdenum, nickel, chromium post-implantation, which cause ion release wear debris formation. These ions interact molecules, triggering localized inflammatory responses, immune-mediated hypersensitivity. Unlike existing reviews, this highlights how metal–protein interactions can form antigenic complexes, contributing delayed hypersensitivity complications peri-implant osteolysis implant failure. While titanium is traditionally considered bioinert, emerging evidence suggests that under certain conditions, even inert induce adverse effects. Furthermore, emphasizes role oxidative stress, illustrating systemic toxicity contribute long-term health risks. It also uncovers underappreciated genotoxic cytotoxic effects cellular metabolism, shedding light potential repercussions. By integrating rigorous methodological approach an in-depth exploration metal-induced offers more nuanced perspective complex interplay between human biology, advancing discourse safety innovation.

We investigated the presence of aluminium (Al) in human colon cancer samples and its potential association with biological processes involved progression, such as epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) cell death. 25 consecutive were collected from patients undergoing colonic resection. Both neoplastic normal mucosa each patient subjected histological, ultrastructural immunohistochemical analyses. Moreover, two Al-positive underwent multi-omic analyses, including whole genome sequencing RNA (RNAseq). Morin staining, used identify situ bioaccumulation, showed Al tumor areas 24 % patients. Transmission electron microscopy energy-dispersive X-ray microanalysis confirmed specifically intracytoplasmic electrondense nanodeposits adjacent mitochondria cells. Immunohistochemical analyses for vimentin nuclear β-catenin performed highlight occurrence EMT phenomenon bioaccumulation. a significant increase both number vimentin-positive β-catenin-positive cells compared Al-negative samples. exhibited decrease apoptotic cells, well expression anti-apoptotic molecule BCL-2. Multi-omic revealed higher mutational burden (TMB) cancers (n = 2) control cohort 100). Additionally, somatic mutations genes associated (GATA3) apoptosis (TP53) observed cancers. In conclusion, this study provides first evidence bioaccumulation role modulating molecular pathways apoptosis.
