The enzyme-assisted approaches for plant phenolics extraction are more eco-friendly methods compared to acid or alkaline hydrolysis. Carbohydrase enzymes can release free from materials by cleaving the glycosidic bonds between phenolic compounds and cell wall polymers. In this study, efficiency of carbohydrase-assisted treatment was evaluated extract bioactive hawthorn (Crataegus orientalis) fruit residues. Enzymatic fruits operated using a crude cellulolytic enzyme cocktail Rhizomucor miehei NRRL 5282 pectinase preparate Aspergillus niger. Both cellulase combined cellulase–pectinase treatments improved total content (TPC) antioxidant activity extracts. TPC increased 1899 ± 27 mg gallic equivalents/100 g dry matter during treatment, showing strong correlation with average capacity determined ferric-reducing power (1.7-fold increment) 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (1.15-fold reagents. major in enzyme-treated extracts were vanillic ferulic acids, concentrations which 115.6-fold 93.9-fold, respectively, carbohydrase treatment. planktonic growth Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Chromobacterium violaceum slightly inhibited minimum inhibitory concentration values 15.0 77.9 mg/mL, while yeasts tested quite resistant samples. B. subtilis yeast biofilms sensitive extracts, also showed quorum-sensing effects against C. violaceum. obtained hold potential as natural source antioxidants antimicrobials.

One of today’s major environmental and economic challenges is the fight against both agro- industrial-waste. Almond production industrial processing exemplifies this issue, as it generates tons waste by-products, with hulls shells accounting for about 70% total fruit’s weight while skins represent 6% shelled kernel. Since edible kernel, 23% fruit weight, holds highest commercial value, there has been growing interest within scientific community in exploring potential these by-products. However, almond by-products contain a wide range phytochemicals, mainly phenolic compounds (flavonoids non-flavonoids), triterpenoids, great antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, prebiotic properties. Although are being explored alternative sources textile, pharmaceutical/cosmetic, food industries, their primary use remains livestock feed or bedding, biofuel. This review compiles recent data on by-products’ phytochemical composition bioactivities aiming to support sustainable holistic agricultural practices.

Background/Objectives: This study provides the first comprehensive phytochemical composition and biological evaluation of Dianthus sylvestris subsp. aristidis (Batt.) Greuter & Burdet, a plant endemic to Algeria with unexplored pharmacological potential. The objective is identify novel bioactive metabolites in plant’s extracts assess their potential applications for skincare metabolic disorder management, addressing gaps current understanding its medicinal value. Methods: Liquid chromatography coupled electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS/MS) profiling was used analyze hydromethanolic (HMeOH) leaf extract compounds. activities HMeOH, ethyl acetate (EtOAc), butanolic (n-BuOH) were tested cytotoxicity using brine shrimp lethality test, photoprotective by calculating sun protection factor (SPF), enzymatic inhibitory against alpha-amylase, urease, tyrosinase. Results: LC-ESI-MS/MS MeOH identified 22 compounds, including phenolic acids flavonoids, some which have not been previously reported this species. Cytotoxicity tests showed that all non-toxic (half-lethal concentration (LC50) > 100 micrograms per milliliter). SPF values indicated significant potential, EtOAc (SPF = 45.19 ± 0.73) n-BuOH 43.81 0.59) showing high activity. exhibited strong alpha-amylase activity (half-maximal (IC50) 307.08 milliliter), surpassing standard acarbose (IC50 3650.93 suggesting diabetes management. Conclusions: demonstrates as source secondary These findings provide new insights into therapeutic set foundation future clinical investigations.

Nonthermal processing can change and improve the composition of food. This study examines impact cold plasma technology—glow discharge, dielectric barrier discharge (DBD), ultrasound (US)—on bioaccessibility ascorbic acid (vitamin C) total phenolic compounds (TPCs) in orange cashew apple juice after simulated digestion. The juices were treated by DBD for 20 min at three different frequencies (50, 500, 1000 Hz), glow synthetic air flow rates (10, 20, 30 mL/min), US potencies (183, 280 373 W/cm2) 10 min. nonthermal did not significantly reduce levels juice. In contrast, either remained stable or increased up to 80% improved both juices, reaching 150% with W/cm2. Despite decrease juice, notably enhanced this bioactive compound’s 10% 20% compared control sample, highlighting potential technologies nutritional quality foods.
