Introduction Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) are increasingly promoted as cost-effective, and environmentally friendly source of protein in animal nutrition. However, there is limited information about farmers' adoption rates the factors influencing their decisions Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). This article assesses livestock actual potential BSFL determinants decisions. Methods In this paper, we used treatment effect framework approach on data collected from 1,885 fish, poultry, pig smallholder farmers five cities four West Central African countries, including Kinshasa Bukavu Democratic Republic Congo (DRC), Accra Ghana, Bamako Mali, Niamey Niger. Results discussion The results show that 20 percent surveyed aware a feed, rate percent. analysis showed could quadruple if all were aware. result suggests successful awareness creation can boost BSFL, which currently stands at should target educated with access to group membership, credit, extension services, diversified income sources influence adopt feed.

ABSTRACT Frass deriving from Hermetia illucens was explored as a new sustainable tool to induce biostimulation and/or antifungal activity in Solanum lycopersicum L. var Cerasiforme and Triticum durum Desf. Simeto against the soil‐borne pathogens Fusarium spp. Phytotoxicity vitro antagonism assessments (mycelial growth inhibition of about 40%) allowed define optimal dilution 10% pasteurised‐frass extract (pFE) employ for seed priming. Germination tests on water agar demonstrated priming effectiveness wheat, but not tomato, analysed parameters were positively affected. The pFE used also combination with known biocontrol agent Trichoderma harzianum T22 (T22), demonstrating that they could work together obtain good promotion protective effect wheat. Indeed, significantly reduced disease incidence almost 60% or 80%, compared infected control, if alone combined T22, respectively. ability frass control F. sporotrichioides wheat attributed both enzymatic non‐enzymatic responses, due observed differences total phenolic content (TPC) superoxide dismutase (SOD) seedlings derived treated seeds, untreated control. Our findings highlight great potential H. sustainable, green, circular economy‐based agricultural systems.

Sheep solid waste in feces can be processed and converted using indigenous microorganisms the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot detritivore. The results of decomposition organic material from sheep BFS biomass BSF frass. research involved combining with milk processing industry sludge kitchen aerobically them microorganism decomposers detritivores. This aims to convert into frass various materials, bacteria, fungi exploration methods. method used was exploration, data obtained a descriptive. Beginning 7-day initial process by decomposers, then continues for 21 days showed that bacteria substrate amounted 5 × 10 cfu/g 3 cfu/g. Processing could reduce amount waste, which resulted reduction 63,87%, resulting 1042±98.4631 g Frass 1084±55.8345 g.

The pervasive issue of continuous monoculture in agricultural practices culminates the proliferation soil-borne pathogens. This study investigates efficacy Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) Hermetia illucens frass as a novel amendment for modifying soil microbiome, particularly tobacco fields plagued by cropping challenges. Employing pot incubation experiment within soils, we delved into BSFL frass' impact on microbial community restructuring under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions, utilizing Illumina MiSeq technology quality analysis. addition notably enhanced hydrolysable nitrogen, available potassium, organic matter, concurrently reducing relative abundance Fusarium oxysporum to 0.8% achieving disinfestation rate 100% with frass-based RSD treatments. These treatments significantly reduced bacterial fungal richness diversity, while augmenting disease-suppressive genera families. further outlines differential influences conditions communities across treatments, metabolomics analysis underscoring overarching positive metabolism.
