The Prevalence of and Factors Associated with Disordered Eating Among Adult Athletes in Italy and Lebanon

Background/Objectives:
Disordered
eating
(DE)
is
a
wide-spectrum
condition,
represented
by
altered
patterns,
behaviors,
and
attitudes
aimed
at
controlling
food
intake,
body
weight,
shape,
which
does
not
necessarily
satisfy
the
diagnostic
criteria
for
an
disorder
of
clinical
severity.
DE
frequently
reported
among
athletes,
but
its
prevalence
associated
factors
have
been
fully
elucidated.
In
this
study,
we
intended
to
assess
adult
athletes
from
different
sports
disciplines
in
Italy
Lebanon
identify
with
DE.
Methods.
A
validated
questionnaire
(Eating
Attitude
Test
[EAT-26])
was
administered
determine
DE,
indicated
score
≥
17.
Sport-related
information,
such
as
type
sport,
level
competition,
training
volume,
years
athletic
experience,
also
collected.
Results:
Among
total
sample

This
study
investigated
the
risks
of
eating
disorders
in
sports
where
weight
control
is
critical,
focusing
on
apprentice
jockeys
and
wrestlers.

ORTO-15
test.

EAT-26
assessed

disordered
eating,

risk,

suggested

unhealthy
obsession.
Data
were
analyzed
using
SPSS
25.0,
significance

set
at

0.05.

wrestlers
