Aims
Candidiasis,

healthcare
risks,

trends
in
antifungal
resistance.

Antifungal susceptibility, molecular epidemiology, and clinical risk factors of Candida glabrata in intensive care unit in a Chinese Tertiary Hospital

Background
The
increasing
incidence
and
high
mortality
rate
of
Candida
glabrata
infection
in
ICU
patients
is
an
important
issue.
Therefore,
it
imperative
to
investigate
the
antifungal
susceptibility
profiles
epidemiological
characteristics
local
regions.
Methods
Herein,
testing
was
conducted
determine
minimum
inhibitory
concentrations
(MICs)
eight
drugs.
Multilocus
sequence
typing
(MLST)
used
study
strain
genotype,
geographical
distribution,
agents
among
C.
isolates.
mechanism
echinocandin
resistance
explored
by
sequencing
FKS1
FKS2
genes
(encoding
1,3-β-D-glucan
synthases)
echinocandin-resistant
strains.
Moreover,
we
further
investigated
clinical
manifestations
various
risk
factors
infected
with
ICU.
Results
We
selected
234
C
.
isolates
from
randomly
for
follow-up
study.
Cross-resistance
found
Analysis
using
MLST
showed
that
genetic
diversity
low.
Furthermore,

has

largely

microorganisms

rarely
reported.
Here,
we
identified

determined
profile
45
Candida
isolates
recovered
from
artisanal
cheeses
20
cities
Boyacá,
Colombia.
Among
Candida
lambica
(28.9%)
prevailed,
followed
by
krusei
(24.4%),
kefyr
(22.2%),
lusitaniae
(11.1%),
inconspicua
(6.7%)
parapsilosis
(4.4%)
guillermondii
(2.2%).
Notably,
all
seven
have
globally
reported,
to
greater
or
lesser
extent,
cause
fungemia
other
invasive
infections
with
high
mortality
rates.
Remarkably,
most
C.
lambica
C.
krusei,
were
resistant
fluconazole,
one
common
drugs
treat
candidiasis.
Our
findings
highlight
importance
exploring
ecological
niches
together
susceptibility,
considering
that
emergence
resistance
non-commensal
opportunistic
pathogens
poses
serious
threat
public
health.
