Abstract Increasing agricultural productivity while also protecting the environment, requires careful stewardship of most important resource in production – land. Most land Northern Ireland is controlled via owner occupation and granting access to others a matter for consideration. Proprietorial caution, combined with custom values attributed region has resulted pattern tenure dominated by short-term rental agreements called conacre. An insecure, system, such as conacre may be disincentive farmers their decision-making around investing management development, consequently resulting reduced farm-level sustainability. In this study, we analysed psychological behavioural factors influencing farmers’ intention take up long-term leasing Ireland. To achieve our objective, employed mixed-methods approach statistically quantitative data using an extended theory planned behaviour (TPB) structural equation modelling framework. The results analyses showed that attitude, perceived control, subjective norm risk were significant determinants adopt leasing. study have implications design effective policies aimed at encouraging through change ensure sustainable management.

Therefore, a study synthesizing previous identifying actual policy boost farmers’ implementation is worthwhile. Using the Systematic Literature Review analysis, this paper aims identify views change adaptation mitigation, challenges in implementing practices, policies transition toward developed developing countries. We found (1) awareness change, knowledge skills are prominent adapting mitigating both types countries, (2) farmland size, risks income loss, training extension services influenced mitigation strategies (3) countries experienced uncertainty economic profits legislative when adopting issued significant up-front expenses acquire technology adopt (4) financial access incentives through can be valuable develop livelihoods, especially households.

Interest in local and regional food systems (LRFSs) as economic development resilience strategies has grown over several decades. Disruptions caused by climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, international conflicts have illuminated our vulnerabilities increased motivation to build “scaling up” foods. Yet, scaling up LRFSs remains challenging aspirational many communities, suggesting a need further explore their contextualized hybrid systems. Drawing from survey of landowners interviews with producers, resource managers, others, this study focused on Palouse bioregion U.S. Northwest. This was done illustrate complexity potential context land water constraints, diverse stakeholders, multiple, potentially conflicting land-use goals. The results identify points tension between small-scale produce large-scale dryland commodity systems, but also complementarity. Conflict, dialectic, hybridization can help each scale become more environmentally economically sustainable. While access is barrier, landowner survey identified 1,000 acres (405 hectares) available for growing LRFSs. Landowners expressed set values orientations agriculture, which shapes provides opportunities different approaches. Water supply constrains irrigated agricultural rather than prevents it region; however, water-efficient irrigation practices pond hold promise agricultural, hydrologic, habitat improvement. Bovine tuberculosis remains a challenging endemic pathogen of cattle in many parts the globe. Spatial clustering Mycoacterium bovis molecular types suggests that local factors are primary drivers spread. Northern Ireland's agricultural landscape is comprised highly fragmented farms, distributed across spatially discontinuous land parcels, and these farms thought to facilitate localised We conducted matched case control study quantify risks bovine breakdown with farm area, fragmentation, fragment dispersal, contact neighbouring herds. Whilst our results show small but significant increases risk associated each factor, relationships were strongly confounded number contiguous neighbours tuberculosis. Our key finding was every infected neighbour led an increase odds by 40% 50%, almost twice as likely have bTB positive compared nonfragmented farms. suggest after controlling for herd size, type, spatial temporal factors, fragmentation increasingly exposes herds infection originating from first-order neighbours. Given particularly landscape, reliance on short-term leases, data support hypothesis between-herd spread important component region's disease system.

Short-term land rental agreements such as the traditional conacre system in Northern Ireland offer flexibility between landowners and farmers renting land. However, uncertainty of tenure linked to short-term systems does not allow for make longer-term investment planning decisions, particularly around sustainable management practices. Long-term tenancy have been identified a viable option cope with uncertainties improve environmental In this study, we analysed factors influencing farmers’ intention adopt long-term leasing without income tax incentives Ireland. To achieve our objective, employed ordered logistic regression models complemented qualitative analysis. The results analyses showed that varying including risk attitude, pro-environmental behaviour, profit consciousness, having dairy enterprise, area farmland owned, presence successor, age education farmer influence leasing. variability exists depending on status availability incentives. It can be concluded from study policies aimed at encouraging should take holistic approach incorporates socioeconomic factors.

Exploring the short-term and long-term interests is relevant towards understanding perceptions of rural collectives around Land Value Capture (LVC) changes caused by land marketization. So far, research has focused too much on interest, arguing that often show positive because their LVC gains. However, collective cannot be sufficiently explored if interest neglected. This paper attampts to answer "Which kind dominates marketization reform?" Empirical answers come from a Chinese case study varies in collectives' types, space, institutional settings (modes). Data were collected employing 95 semi-structured interviews out 430 transactions five counties/districts piloting reform. Within mixed-method, qualitative analysis was used as predominant method this study. In contrast literature, these results indicate some are not so positive, especially 'rural stock cooperative system' been put place yet. The reason for focus rather than interest. These findings shed new light ongoing debates about future trends regarding collectives.
