Dental caries are treated using dental composite restorative materials (DCRM). However, commercial DCRMs lack antibacterial activity. This research aimed to analyze the in vitro activity of a series copolymers consisting urethane–dimethacrylate monomer (UDMA), bisphenol A glycerolate dimethacrylate (Bis-GMA), triethylene glycol (TEGDMA) and with two quaternary ammonium groups 1,3-bis(1-isocyanate-1-methylethyl)benzene core (QAn+TMXDI, where n = 8, 10, or 12 is number carbon atoms N-alkyl substituent). QAn+TMXDI contents were 20 40 wt.%. The results Staphylococcus aureus Escherichia coli adhesion test demonstrated that logCFU/mL decreased as length chain content increased. QA8+TMXDI wt.%, Bis-GMA TEGDMA wt.% showed highest activity, 2.39 for S. no viable E. cells.

Six novel urethane-dimethacrylates with quaternary ammonium groups (QAUDMAs) were successfully synthesized from 2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl-2-hydroxyethylmethylalkylammonium bromide (QAHAMA-n, where n was 8 and 10) diisocyanate (isophorone (IPDI), 4,4'-methylenedicyclohexyl (CHMDI), 4,4'-diphenylmethane (MDI)). Their chemical structures confirmed through nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). The refractive index (RI) density (dm) also determined. QAUDMAs compounded common dental dimethacrylates subsequently photopolymerized. resulting copolymers, comprising QAUDMA 40 wt.%, bisphenol A glycerolate dimethacrylate (Bis-GMA) triethylene glycol (TEGDMA) 20 tested for water sorption (WS) solubility (SL). Diseases such are caries affect approximately 25% of the worldwide population. Such a state requires novel, antibacterial materials. This research aimed to synthesize and characterize structures two urethane-dimethacrylate monomers showing possible activity for dental composite restorative materials (DCRMs).
