Chitosan is a water-soluble polysaccharide with good adherence to negatively charged surfaces and reported antimicrobial anti-inflammatory properties. Coating the of medical devices chitosan promising strategy for harnessing these benefits. However, surface properties commercial polymers need be altered enable bonding thin films. In this study, adhesion onto plasma-treated polyvinyl chloride (PVC) metabolic activity urothelial cells on chitosan-coated medical-grade PVC used synthesis urinary catheters were evaluated. To improve catheters, samples made "super-hydrophilic". substrates briefly treated powerful hydrogen plasma weakly ionised oxygen afterglow obtain chlorine-free film, which was rich in functional groups, followed by incubation an aqueous solution chitosan. Then, RT4 seeded untreated substrates, their activity, confluency, cell morphology examined. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measure nitrogen concentration, corresponded concentration substrate. The results showed that uniformly covered layer only not surfaces. Moreover, coating provided stimulated environment growth. conclusion, super-hydrophilic substrate shows potential overall performance safety such as catheters.
