The exploration of bioactive phytochemical quantities two underutilized Sri Lankan seaweeds Ulva lactuca (UL) and fasciata (UF) revealed significant phenolic, flavonoid, ulvan, carotenoid, chlorophyll, tannin, saponin, alkaloid contents, DPPH radical scavenging activities. To evaluate their application in developing seaweed incorporated cereal-based functional snacks, wheat crackers were formulated using 0% (control), 2%, 4% powder as a flour replacement. Developed had elevated sensory acceptability, protein, ash contents activities, confirming the capacity UL UF utilization producing potentially snacks with improved nutritional attributes.

Chronic inflammation can extensively burden a healthcare system. Several synthetic anti-inflammatory drugs are currently available in clinical practice, but each has its own side effect profile. The planet is gifted with vast and diverse oceans, which provide treasure of bioactive compounds, the chemical structures may valuable pharmaceutical agents. Marine organisms contain variety some have activity received considerable attention from scientific community for development drugs. This review describes such as well crude extracts (published during 2010–2022) echinoderms: namely, sea cucumbers, urchins, starfish. Moreover, we also include their structures, evaluation models, activities, including molecular mechanism(s) these compounds. paper highlights potential applications those marine-derived compounds industry to develop leads pipeline.
