Abstract Asthma and sleep-related respiratory disorders represent common well-characterized pathologies, yet ongoing debates persist regarding their association potential bidirectional relationship. We performed a literature search encompassed PubMed MEDLINE, exploring studies publications on the overlap of sleep apnea asthma, especially considering risk factor, obesity. Observational studies, including prospective retrospective cohort meta-analyses, case reports, were analyzed. The available data indicate relationship between asthma obstructive (OSA), with each condition influencing other. is identified as factor for OSA, exacerbating its severity, while OSA has been linked to development progression asthma. Results Obesity plays critical role an independent connecting emphasizing intricate interplay these conditions. A body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25 kg/m2 central OSA. Conclusion This research underscores need further exploration into nuanced mechanisms linking obesity, apnea, Additionally, innovative interventions treatment modalities tailored address interconnected health issues are imperative personalized targeted approaches in managing patients obesity-related complications, ultimately improving overall outcomes.

Background: The high prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), about 30% people worldwide over 30 years old, underscores the crucial need for early screening. This study aimed to identify key predictive factors OSA; use these develop a screening equation population at risk and prospectively validate this equation's application. Methods: included two phases: retrospective phase examining anthropometric data, Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS), home test (HSAT) from 200 patients referred Respiratory Sleep Disorder Center Policlinico Umberto I, Rome, Italy (January 2020-January 2023) create OSA using multivariate analysis (with most data according scientific literature). A prospective testing on 53 May 2023 September 2024. Results: In phase, variables apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) identified were neck circumference (NC) (ESS). derived was as follows: AHIp = [-70.498 + (2.196 × NC) (0.809 ESS)]. study, we compared AHI predicted by (AHIp) with measured via HSAT (AHIm) in recruited. results showed that had sensitivity 95%, specificity 28%, positive value (PPV) 46%, negative (NPV) 90%. Conclusions: NC ESS predictors OSA, forming equation. equation, showing NPV, may be useful method rule out OSA.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is linked to obesity, and the body roundness index (BRI) an innovative measure of obesity that more accurately reflects visceral total fat. The relationship between BRI likelihood OSA unclear, so we aimed investigate association prevalence OSA. We used data from National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES; 2005-2008 2015-2020) conduct a cross-sectional study involving 24,476 individuals aged 18 years or older. was assessed using three standardized NHANES questionnaire items measuring monthly daytime sleepiness, weekly events, habitual snoring frequency. A formula uses height waist measures measurements calculate BRI. Covariates, including sex, age, race/ethnicity, education level, marital status, poverty-income ratio (PIR), alcohol consumption, smoking high blood pressure (HBP), diabetes, duration were controlled multivariate logistic regression models. Subgroup analyses, interaction tests, smoothed curve fitting also performed. After controlling for confounders, showed positive correlation with Among participants older, 11,856 diagnosed full model revealed significant incidence (OR = 1.11, 95% CI: 1.08-1.14, p < 0.0001). Participants in highest percentile had 87% greater developing compared those lowest 1.87, 1.62-2.16, levels have shown favorable rising rates United States. serves as straightforward anthropometric predictor

Abstract The interrelationship between asthma, obesity, and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) presents a critical area of investigation within medicine, given the rising prevalence these conditions globally. This article explores multifactorial interactions among three disorders that contribute to significant morbidity. Asthma, chronic inflammatory condition airways, is one most common respiratory Asthma in people with obesity associated poor asthma control, increased severity, an frequency exacerbations. Obesity, characterized by excessive fat accumulation, well-established risk factor for development OSA. sleep-related breathing disorder disrupts airflow during due pharyngeal collapse. Conversely, OSA may worsen symptoms through intermittent hypoxia fragmentation, further complicating management. review analyzes existing literature illustrate bidirectional relationships conditions. It discusses role systemic inflammation, hormone dysregulation, lifestyle factors, such as diet physical inactivity, persistence obese patients. Furthermore, it highlights importance comprehensive management strategies address overlapping disorders. Clinical implications are examined, consideration potential targeted therapies interventions could mitigate improve quality life affected individuals. Understanding complex essential healthcare practitioners optimizing patients By recognizing interconnectedness conditions, clinicians can adopt more holistic approach treatment, leading improved outcomes better understanding patient's overall health trajectory. Background: Almost 20% of Polish citizens aged >15 years are obese and this number is increasing. Numerous obesity-associated diseases include, quite notably, also sleep-related breathing disorders hypoventilation. This study aimed to analyse the prevalence obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) staging in a group patients qualified for bariatric surgery within Comprehensive Specialist Care Bariatrics (KOS-BAR) pilot program designed running Poland since 2021. Methods: Prior procedure, participants were referred pulmonologist assessment. We retrospectively analysed records 134 patients. Results: all tested ( n = 122, 91.0%) had obstructive sleep apnea mainly classified as severe (59.0%). Hypoventilation was confirmed 30 (22.4%), 37.9% them, increased levels serum bicarbonate found. Chronic diurnal hypercapnia 7.9% (10/122). Conclusions: well population significant issue. The presented included stages 0–IV conducted analysis suggests that most common form among (stage I).
