Tannins are secondary metabolites naturally present in various plants as a defense mechanism. In animal nutrition, they play dual role, acting both antinutritional factors and bioactive agents, with potential benefits nutrient metabolism product quality. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effects of dietary tannin on intake digestibility, blood serum metabolite levels, growth performance, carcass characteristics, meat quality small ruminants. Ninety-seven studies were included this meta-analysis. The tannins analyzed using random-effects model determine weighted mean difference between treatments control (without tannins). Publication bias heterogeneity explored, meta-regression subgroup analyses performed. results indicated that significantly increased dry matter, crude protein, nitrogen (N), fecal N, fatty acids (FA), such C18:2 ω6, C18:3 ω3, C20:4 C20:5 total ω3 ω6 FA, polyunsaturated FA (PUFA). However, NH3-N, urinary urea nitrogen, cold weight, subcutaneous fat thickness, drip loss, digestibility decreased. conclusion, ruminants did not affect productivity antioxidative status, but mainly modified improved acid profile meat.

Abstract Ruminal fermentation is a natural process involving beneficial microorganisms that contribute to the production of valuable products and efficient nutrient conversion. However, it also leads emission greenhouse gases, which have detrimental effects on environment animal productivity. Phytobiotic additives emerged as potential solution these challenges, offering benefits in terms rumen modulation, pollution reduction, improved health performance. This updated review aims provide comprehensive understanding specific phytobiotic ruminant nutrition by summarizing existing studies. additives, rich secondary metabolites such tannins, saponins, alkaloids, essential oils, demonstrated biological properties positively influence enhance These environmental protection effectively reducing nitrogen excretion methane emissions from ruminants. Furthermore, they inhibit microbial respiration nitrification soil, thereby minimizing nitrous oxide emissions. In addition their impact, improve manipulation, leading increased productivity quality products. Their multifaceted properties, including anthelmintic, antioxidant, antimicrobial, immunomodulatory effects, further well-being both animals humans. The synergistic combining with probiotics are explored, highlighting need for research this area. conclusion, show great promise sustainable effective solutions improving addressing challenges.

With STI, inclusion reduced (linear: p ≤ 0.0199; quadratic: 0.0267) biogas production (mL g-1 DM incubated degraded), CO H2S without affecting (p > 0.05) parameters (b = asymptotic gas, c rate gas Lag initial delay time before production) H2S, proportion per kg dry matter (DM). In addition, inoculum, pH, degradation (DMD) increased 0.0060), although short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) metabolizable energy (ME) decreased < 0.0001; 0.0015), did not affect efficiency. For purpose, 45 crude extracts (CEs) prepared using different solvents, including water, ethyl acetate, methanol, ethanol, hexane. Upon undergoing secondary metabolites screening, it was discovered that parts three species contain high level such as alkaloids, catechic tannins, flavonoids, coumarins, sterols, triterpenes. This confirmed by results quantitative analysis, which proved significant amount phenolic compounds, ranging from 27.05 213.42 mg GAE/g CE. With regard antiradical power (ARP) prove majority CEs have great ARP (were within range 0.42–1.99) compared BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) standard (0.33 APR). addition, capacity (TAC) analysis showed good TAC (varies between 37.67 396.80 AAE/g CE).
