Background/Aims: It is widely known that the imbalance between reactive oxygen species (ROS)/antioxidants and mitochondrial function could play a pivotal role in aging physiopathology of viral infections. Here, we correlated plasma oxidants/antioxidants levels elderly admitted to long-term care (LTC) unit with clinical data relation flu-like disease/COVID-19. Moreover, vitro examined effects on cell viability, ROS release function. Materials Methods: In 60 patients LTC for at least 1 year moderate or high load, demographic variables were taken. Blood samples collected evaluations oxidants/antioxidants, as thiobarbituric acid substances, 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine, 8-isoprostanes, superoxide dismutase activity, glutathione, vitamin D. vitro, human umbilical vascular endothelial cells (HUVEC) used examine membrane potential. Results: The results obtained showed redox state was quite balanced; potential HUVEC reduced by about 20%, only. Also, correlation analysis evidenced association patients' outcomes. Interestingly, lower found who had symptoms suggestive COVID-19 confirmed diagnosis COVID-19. Conclusion: this study highlight importance tendency get syndrome like unit. This information have implications management old population.

Aquafeed formulation has progressively reduced its dependence on fish-derived ingredients over the past decades. Plant-based substitutes have been a major focus, with soybean meal and derivatives leading way. However, many plants contain phytoestrogens, which may affect fish physiology. This study aimed to assess in vitro effects of genistein (GE), daidzein (DZN), glycitein (GLY), coumestrol (COU) lipid metabolism rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata). Primary cultured adipocytes were incubated these along 17β-estradiol, at two doses each (1, 10, or 100 μM). The μM dose GE DZN decreased adipocyte viability, mainly enhanced accumulation both species, suggesting hypertrophic condition. reduction number content indicated limiting effect adipose tissue growth this species. Interestingly, COU significantly increased cell viability bream, potentially hyperplastic growth, more favorable metabolic state. In that proved be phytoestrogens-sensitive, lipoprotein lipase was generally downregulated upon treatments. Moreover, 10 µM mRNA levels fatty acid transport protein 1 synthase, those binding 1, an acceleration differentiation process compared control cells. work provides new insights into how dietary phytoestrogens modulate supports their presence plant feedstuffs can health production performance.

Obesity is associated to increased incidence and poorer prognosis in multiple cancers, contributing up 20% of cancer related deaths. These associations are mainly driven by metabolic inflammatory changes the adipose tissue during obesity, which disrupt physiologic homeostasis. The association between obesity hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, cardiovascular disease (CVD) type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) well known. Importantly, retrospective analysis more than 1000 epidemiological studies have also shown positive correlation excess fatness with risk cancer. In addition, important weight, it dysfunctional main driver insulin resistance, syndrome all cause mortality deaths, explains why normal weight individuals may behave as “metabolically unhealthy obese” individuals. Adipocytes direct effects on tumor cells through paracrine signaling. Downregulation adiponectin upregulation leptin serum correlate markers chronic inflammation, crown like structures (CLS) disfunction. Nevertheless, a preventable factor Lifestyle interventions might contribute reduce adverse obesity. Thus, Mediterranean diet interventional been circulation factors, sensitivity function, durable responses years obese patients. supplemented extra-virgin olive oil reduced breast compared control diet. Physical activity another lifestyle systemic biomarkers this scenario, precision nutrition provide complementary approaches target inflammation “unhealthy obesity”. Herein, we first describe different types -thermogenic active brown (BAT) versus energy storing white (WAT). We then move based strategies, mean natural extracts derived from plants and/or ingredients, be useful normalize More specifically, focus two axis: (1) activation thermogenesis BAT browning WAT; (2) potential augmenting oxidative capacity muscles dissipate energy. strategies particularly relevant alleviate immunosuppression, angiogenesis chemotherapy resistance Finally, summarize where plant extracts, mainly, polyphenols flavonoids, applied increase expenditure.

Genistein (GN) has been highly recommended for its medicinal properties like anticancer, antidiabetic, antihyperlipidemic, antiviral, and antioxidant activities among others. Recently, scientists realized that is an endocrine disruptor. It obesogen interferes with the system causing obesity through many mechanisms inducing adipocyte differentiation, lipid accumulation, transformation of some stem cells into adipocytes (bone marrow mesenchymal example) in vitro . Animal studies show GN upregulates genes associated adipogenesis CCAAT/enhancer binding protein alpha (Cebpα), beta (Cebpβ), PPARγ. In silico reveal a strong affinity estrogen receptors. All these findings were contingent on concentration tissues. beyond dispute one most frustrating medical conditions under sun. Changes of lipidic storage, oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction may be involved in the pathogenesis non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Although knowledge intracellular pathways has vastly expanded recent years, role mechanisms circulating triggering factor(s) are debated. Thus, we tested hypothesis that factors blood NAFLD patients influence processes underlying disease. Huh7.5 cells/primary human hepatocytes were exposed to plasma from 12 healthy subjects specific assays performed examine viability, H 2 O reactive oxygen species (ROS) release, membrane potential triglycerides content. The involvement NLRP3 inflammasome signaling related peroxisome-proliferator-activating-ligand-receptor-γ (PPARγ), sterol-regulatory-element-binding-protein-1c (SREBP-1c), nuclear-factor-kappa-light-chain-enhancer activated B cells (NF-kB), NADPH oxidase (NOX2) was evaluated by repeating experiments presence blocker, MCC950, through Western blot. results obtained shown able reduce cell viability about 48 24% ( p < 0.05), increase , ROS, content 42, 19, 16% respectively. An increased expression SREBP-1c, PPARγ, NF-kB NOX2 51, 121, 63, 46%, respectively, observed as well. Those effects reduced use MCC950. hepatocytes, exposure induces a NAFLD-like phenotype interference with NLRP3-inflammasome activation NOX2.
