Abstract Objective To determine, through a systematic review with meta‐analysis, the prevalence of food addiction (FA) using Yale Food Addiction Scale (YFAS) and its derivatives exploring possible factors associated FA in several contexts. Methods The following databases were searched: MEDLINE, ScienceDirect, LILACS, PsycArticles, CENTRAL, Greylit.org , OpenGrey.eu . Studies that assessed YFAS included. Two independent reviewers eligibility each report. Random‐effects meta‐analysis was performed to calculate weighted FA. Subgroup analyses meta‐regression conducted explore sources heterogeneity. Results Of 6425 abstracts reviewed, 272 studies mean diagnosis 20% (95% CI: 18%; 21%). higher individuals clinical binge eating (55%; 95% CI 34%; 75%). samples compared non‐clinical samples. included children only no elderly people. Conclusions is topic which there has been significant growth studies. highest found group participants disorders weight disorders. More are needed.

Abstract Background Worldwide, 60% of people use social media. Excessive and/or addictive media termed “problematic use”, has been reported to negatively influence psychological and physiological health. Therefore, we proposed an illustrated model investigate the associations between addiction, distress food addiction among Taiwanese university students. Methods A total 598 participants (mean age = 22.8 years) completed online survey comprising Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS) assessing Depression Anxiety Stress (DASS-21) distress, Yale Food 2.0 (YFAS 2.0) addiction. Results Structural equation modeling showed significant BSMAS DASS-21 (standardized coefficient [β] 0.45; p < 0.01) YFAS (β 0.43; 0.01). In addition, mediation effect with 100 bootstrapping samples indirect in association Conclusions The present study details relationships as well results suggest need for interventions aimed at reducing these negative outcomes. Coping strategies improving self-control or weight-related stigma, such consumption monitoring mindfulness, could be adopted at-risk individuals address problems.

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), such as abuse, neglect, or household violence, have been identified significant risk factors for a multitude of physical and psychological conditions, motivating research to identify contributing mechanisms conditions. Substantial evidence exists that supports strong associations between ACEs symptoms post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), eating disorders (EDs), addictive disorders. Recent has also elucidated link ultra-processed food addiction (UPFA), clinical presentation resembling substance use with foods (UPFs; e.g., pastries, packaged snacks, sweetened beverages). Yet, no our knowledge explored causal mediation pathways ACEs, consumption patterns UPFs, PTSD, UPFA, ED. In sample 304 adults seeking dietary counseling in private practice specializing mental health nutrition, this study conducted analyses structural equation modeling test conceptual model the hypothesized contributions UPF intake UPFA explaining relationships PTSD Symptoms fully mediated (99.4%) positive relationship ED 51.0% ACE-UPFA association. The role of stress, trauma, and adversity particularly early in life has been identified as a contributing factor both drug food addictions. While links between traumatic stress substance use disorders are well documented, the pathways to addiction obesity less established. This review focuses on psychosocial neurobiological factors that may increase risk for addiction-like behaviors ultimately BMI over lifespan. Early childhood adolescent can induce long-lasting alterations glucocorticoid dopamine systems lead increased vulnerability later life. Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), such as maltreatment and household dysfunction, are positively linked to substance use disorders (SUD), weight loss efforts, maladaptive eating behaviors, including ultra-processed food addiction (UPFA) disorder (ED) symptoms. However, the differential association of ACEs with UPFA by lifetime SUD history EDs suppression— discrepancy between an individual’s highest current weight/BMI in adulthood— have not been examined. Using logistic regression marginal effects analysis, this cross-sectional study aimed assess (1) cumulative a risk factor for screening positive EDs, (2) moderator ACE-UPFA relationship, (3) suppression ACE-ED relationship. Among 287 adults presenting private practice offering nutrition counseling recovery, presence 4 or more (compared <4 ACEs) significantly increased odds UPFA-positive screens (OR=1.99; CI=1.19-3.35; p=0.01) but ED-positive (OR=1.36; CI=0.80-2.30, p=0.25). Additionally, interaction was significant outcome (p<0.01). Those self-reported exhibited probability ACEs. Meanwhile, remained unchanged among those who did report history. Cumulative predict screens, ACE-weight meet threshold significance. Overall findings underscore cross-vulnerability addictive behaviors potential importance integrating interventions treatment

Abstract Purpose of Review To examine the prevalence rates ultra-processed food addiction across different weight classes and offer guidelines for diagnosis treatment. Clinicians are provided with practical considerations in assessment beyond use validated instruments. Recent Findings The weighted mean is approximately 20% worldwide varies widely based on sample. At first glance, there appears a linear relationship between BMI class. Further investigation indicates J-shaped curve heightened among underweight. These findings highlight need to assess additional factors that may increase objective or subjective symptoms including eating disorders, dietary restraint, other mental health diagnoses. Summary While clinical vary, overemphasis status detract from utility construct. Considering conjunction psychiatric helps better understand various biopsychosocial mechanisms influence behavior can inform individualized treatment strategies.

The relationship between food addiction, an important emerging construct of excessive eating pathology, and dietary restraint has yet to be fully understood. Eating disorder models commonly posit that exacerbates loss control (e.g., binge episodes) may also play a causal role in the development addiction. However, as reaction consequences addiction uncontrollable or weight gain) represents another plausible pathway. Existing studies indicate association more significant during adolescence than adulthood, but are limited by cross-sectional study designs. A longitudinal using adolescent sample is ideal for investigating potential pathways underlying links restraint. This examined temporal one hundred twenty-seven adolescents (M = 14.8, SD 1.1) at three timepoints spanning two years. first examine cross-lagged panel associations In this sample, significantly predicted future (b 0.25, SE 0.06, p < 0.001), did not predict 0.05, > 0.05). These findings support theory deleterious effects adolescence.
