Although various benefits of human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) have been reported, such as promoting Bifidobacterium growth in the infant gut, their effects on adults not fully studied. This study investigated two types sialyllactose, 3′-sialyllactose (3′-SL) and 6′-sialyllactose (6′-SL), adult intestinal microbiome using simulator microbial ecosystem (SHIME®), which can simulate gastrointestinal conditions. HPLC metabolite analysis showed that sialyllactose (SL) supplementation increased short-chain fatty acid content SHIME culture broth. Moreover, 16S rRNA gene sequencing revealed SL promoted Phascolarctobacterium Lachnospiraceae, acid-producing bacteria, but Bifidobacterium. Altogether, both stimulated an increase acids, including propionate butyrate. Additionally, supernatant supplemented with improved barrier function Caco-2 cell monolayers. These results suggest could act a unique prebiotic among other HMOs nonbifidogenic effect, resulting protection.

Coffee intake is linked to a reduced risk of Parkinson disease (PD), but whether this effect mediated by gut microbiota and metabolomic changes remains unclear. This study examines PD-associated shifts, caffeine metabolism, their connection microbiome alterations in multicenter study. We conducted an untargeted serum assay using liquid chromatography with high-resolution mass spectrometry on exploratory cohort recruited from National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH). A targeted focusing its 12 downstream metabolites was validated independent Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). In the cohort, association each metabolite investigated metagenomic shotgun sequencing. clustering-based approach used correlate plasma level clinical severity. Body index, antiparkinsonism medication use, dietary habits (including coffee tea intake) were recorded. Abstract Background Human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) protect against infection and promote growth cognitive development in breastfeeding children. Non-genetic factors which influence HMO composition mothers rural Africa have not been investigated. Objective We undertook a cross-sectional study to determine the association between profiles non-genetic maternal children’s sex Ugandan mother-children pairs.
