ABSTRACT Background Postoperative patients with oral cancer are deeply distressed about their body image. However, true inner feelings and the factors influencing image remain unclear. Aims This study aims to investigate experience of disturbance in 3 months after surgery analyze factors. Methods process was divided into three steps: (1) semi‐structured interviews, based on Society Ecosystems Theory, disorders surgery, followed by theme summaries; (2) appropriate selection scales according qualitative results; (3) a cross‐sectional survey explore pathways affecting patients. Results Qualitative research summarized nine themes from individual, family/employment, societal/institutional levels, individual level being most commonly mentioned. Further investigation revealed that self‐esteem social alienation have chain mediating effect relationship between speech handicap Conclusions The postoperative is influenced personal, family, societal aspects. These results lay groundwork for formulating interventions alleviate concerns.
