The link between gut microbiome and eating behaviours, especially palatable food intake, is a growing focus of scientific investigation. complex ecosystem microorganisms in the influences host metabolism, immune function neurobehavioural signalling. This review explores role neuroinflammation dysregulations food-induced reward signalling potential causal microbiota on these proinflammatory processes. Particular attention given to disorders (ED, specifically anorexia nervosa, binge disorder bulimia nervosa) links with microbiota, alterations neuroinflammation. Finally, we propose modulation as promising therapeutic strategy ED.

Eating disorders (EDs) are severe mental illnesses with a multifactorial etiology and chronic course. Among the biological factors related to pathogenesis maintenance of EDs, inflammation acquired growing scientific interest. This study aimed assess inflammatory profile focusing on anorexia nervosa, bulimia including for first time binge eating disorder. A comprehensive research existing literature identified 51 eligible studies meta-analysis, comparing levels tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), C-reactive protein (CRP), osteoprotegerin (OPG), soluble receptor activator nuclear factor kappa-B ligand (sRANKL), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-10 (IL-10) between patients EDs healthy controls (HCs). The systematic review explored other biomarkers interest, which did not meet meta-analysis criteria. Results revealed significantly elevated TNF-α, OPG, sRANKL, IL-1β in compared HCs. Additionally, results highlighted heterogeneity state among emphasizing need further into association psychopathological correlates. approach should transcend categorical diagnoses, enabling more precise subcategorizations patients. Overall, this contributed understanding pathways involved potential implications diagnosis, staging, targeted interventions.
