The escalating threat of plastic pollution necessitates urgent and immediate action, particularly within the food beverage (F&B) industry, a significant contributor to single-use waste (SUP). As global population surges, so does consumption plastics in F&B sector, perpetuating linear economy model characterized by 'take, make, use, dispose' approach. This significantly exacerbates issues, with projections indicating an alarming increase outputs 2050 if current practices continue. Against this backdrop, circular presents viable alternative, its emphasis on resource retention, recovery, extension product lifecycles. study delves into problems posed plastics, introduces as sustainable model, explores effective strategies for recycling reuse framework. By examining environmental impact SUP sector advocating adoption principles, paper underscores critical pathway towards solutions battle against pollution. In conclusion, transition economy, underpinned collaboration proactive implementation supportive policies, is imperative reducing footprint fostering future.

Plastics have revolutionised human industries, thanks to their versatility and durability. However, extensive use, coupled with inadequate waste disposal, has resulted in plastic becoming ubiquitous every environmental compartment, posing potential risks the economy, health environment. Additionally, under natural conditions, breaks down into microplastics (MPs<5 mm). The increasing quantity of MPs exerts a significant burden on soil environment, particularly agroecosystems, presenting new stressor for soil-dwelling organisms. In this review, we delve effects MP pollution ecosystems, specific attention (a) transport soils, (b) changes (c) interaction physical, chemical biological components soil. We aim shed light alterations distribution, activity, physiology growth flora, fauna microorganisms response MPs, offering an ecotoxicological perspective risk assessment plastics. are strongly influenced by intrinsic traits, including polymer type, shape, size abundance. By exploring multifaceted interactions between provide critical insights consequences contamination. The pervasive presence of microplastics (MPs) in agroecosystems poses a significant threat to soil health and plant growth. This study investigates the effects varying concentrations sizes polystyrene (PS-MPs) on Solanum lycopersicum L.'s height, dry weight, antioxidant enzyme activities, physicochemical properties, rhizosphere microbial communities. results showed that PS0510 treatment significantly increased height (93.70 cm, +40.83%) weight (2.98 g, +100%). Additionally, activities improved across treatments for S. L. roots. Physicochemical analyses revealed enhanced organic matter nutrient levels, including ammonium nitrogen, phosphorus, effective potassium. Using 16S rRNA sequencing molecular ecological network techniques, we found PS-MPs altered structure function community associated with PS1005 notably diversity displayed most complex network, while PS1010 led reduced complexity more negative interactions. Linear discriminant analysis effect size (LEfSe) identified biomarkers at various taxonomic reflecting impact structure. Mantel tests indicated positive correlations between activity, as well relationships properties activity. Predictions gene PS-MP modified carbon nitrogen cycling pathways, enhancing methanogenesis genes (mcrABG) negatively affecting denitrification (nirK, nirS). provides evidence agroecosystem functioning, highlighting their potential alter communities, thereby

Pollution negatively impacts the environment due to human activities such as urbanization and industrialization. Pollutants that cause pollution can disrupt pH levels, nutrient balance, microbial activity, resulting in lower crop yields deteriorated soil water quality. The removal of these pollutants is essential ensure sustainability environment. Many physicochemical treatment techniques are utilized. However, methods often prove insufficient. Mycoremediation emerges a promising alternative, harnessing fungi's natural abilities degrade sequester heavy metals. This process relies on fungal enzymatic activity adsorption mechanisms, offering more eco-friendly cost-effective approach environmental cleanup. chapter delves into various mycoremediation, specific enzymes responsible for breaking down pollutants, ways which fungi accumulate goal this develop efficient, economically feasible, strategies.
