This paper addresses the issue of high-precision control substrate tension in an accumulator during roll-to-roll coating process. First, a coupling model for errors within is established, along with dynamic models input–output rollers, carriage, and thrust ball screw. Based on these models, simulation built MATLAB/Simulink to analyze main causes under uncontrolled conditions. Next, tackle caused by carriage displacement, nonlinear proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controller proposed, strategy designed. Finally, based established model, experiments are conducted using proposed PID designed strategy, their performance compared that classical controller.
