Additive Manufacturing (AM), or 3D printing, is enabling material efficient, customizable, and adaptable design. It examines the progress from prototyping pioneering AM, its current multifaceted status as an industrial technology implications in multiple sectors such aerospace, healthcare, automotive, consumer goods. We study principal AM techniques, including Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS), Stereolithography (SLA), Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) Selective (SLS), materials comprising metals, polymers composites. End-to-end, entire scope of persistent challenges are covered, cost, quality assurance, regulatory complexities, intellectual property. In addition, chapter imagines future contemplating incorporation artificial intelligence (AI), Internet Things (IoT), bioprinting, potential to democratize manufacturing, for instance through localized production disruptive practices.
