The surfaces of beech wood samples were treated with polyethylenimine (PEI) solutions at three different concentrations—0.5%, 1% and 2%—and two molecular weights—low weight (LMW) high (HMW). effects PEI surface treatment characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, the penetration depth (EPI fluorescence spectroscopy), bonding position (by SEM), wetting energy, water uptake. After treatment, coated a water-based transparent acrylic coating (WTAC). dry film thickness, coating, adhesion strength roughness evaluated. EPI SEM micrographs showed that HMW chains deposited on surface, in contrast to LMW, which penetrates deeper into layers cells. Treatment solution resulted 72% reduction uptake (compared untreated after 5 min applying droplets surface) 23.2% energy samples) while maintaining applied WTAC. lower reduced is particularly important when finished coatings.

The preparation of core–sheath fibers by electrospinning is a topic significant interest for producing composite with distinct core and sheath functionalities. Moreover, in fibers, low-molecular-weight substances or nanosized inorganic additives can be deposited targeted manner within the sheath. Commonly, obtaining structure, coaxial used. It requires spinneret suitable immiscible solvents inner outer solutions. single-nozzle emulsions address these issues, but use stabilizing agent needed. A third approach—preparation homogeneous blend solutions two polymers polymer/low-molecular-weight substance—has been much less studied. circumvents difficulties associated emulsion thoroughly discussed this review. formation case attributed to phase-separation-driven self-organization during process. Some possibilities core–double using same method are also indicated. gained knowledge on potential applications prepared discussed.

Synthetic hydrophilic polyelectrolytes are considered as perspective tools to optimize soil properties and find increasing applications in agricultural technologies. One possible polyelectrolyte-based conditioner that has shown promise for improving hydrophysical is hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile (HYPAN), linear polyanion. Combinations of HYPAN with humic substances binary polymer-humic amendment presumably could provide a synergistic impact. In this study we investigated the effects HYPAN, two different potassium humates (from lignite lignosulfonate), compositions ratios 1:1 1:2, on microbiological activity. We applied polymer solutions (0.9% dry matter basis) lab experiment examined how they affected respiration, microbial biomass, metabolic quotient, decomposition rate constant soil–polymer mixtures. A concurrent set studies involved spiking mixes heavy metals (copper, zinc, lead cadmium). uncontaminated mixtures both stimulated activity microorganisms, expressed increased basal mitigation HM toxicity. The formulations were comparable close size those humates. On 90th day, respiration by 54–77% alone 30%. Binary more efficient when combined humate from lignosulphonate. maximum increase biomass was obtained same composition (65 91 µg C g−1). Under conditions contamination at end incubation, levels parameters spiked did not statistically differ control. Every formulation helped partially restore while reducing toxic HM. these circumstances, itself combination performed better. quality organic primary determinant impact amendments. Combination natural synthetic their mitigated toxicity present soil. This allows use HYPAN-humate improve chemical biological its productivity.
