Academic self-efficacy (ASE) and academic engagement (AE) are important factors that influence students’ life higher education achievements. ASE relates to ability organize themselves for succeed in tasks activities. refers the extent which students actively participate interact with their environments. Background: Self-directed learning (SDL) most appropriately is that personally selected based on individual values. SDL potentially achieves psychological flow. Flow an outcome identified and investigated by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. Among those whose flow he studied were individuals who engaged in self-directed careers—athletes, musicians, researchers. Method: Based their career self-direction, this investigation compares the reports of athletes, researchers Csikszentmihalyi through a qualitative narrative analysis his relevant forty-seven-year publication record. As vocational undergraduate students in China face increasing challenges the job market, understanding factors that shape their employment expectations is crucial. Psychological capital considered a key factor influencing students’ career outlooks. This study aims to examine relationship between psychological (PC) and (EE), while exploring mediating roles of educational flow experience (EFE) active coping style (ACS) this relationship. Based on positive psychology development theories, theoretical model was constructed understand how affects through chain mediation style. A sample 693 (316 males 377 females) from university Guangdong Province participated study. Participants completed Capital Scale (PCS), Career Expectation (CES), Educational Flow Experience (EduFlow-2), Coping Style (CSS). Results indicate higher levels significantly predict stronger expectations. Moreover, both serve as significant mediators expectations, with effect also observed. These findings provide valuable insights into processes influence among undergraduates, highlighting importance fostering creating supportive learning environments improve employability. The results offer practical implications for educators policymakers, suggesting institutions should integrate strategies enhance capital, promote experiences, support styles better prepare labor market.

Flow is a state of mind characterized by intense focus, enjoyment, and complete absorption in an activity.
