Chitin nanofibrils (CN) can be obtained from crustaceans and fungal sources used for preparing coatings bioplastic films, that are fundamental developing a safe sustainable biodegradable food packaging. Coatings with different concentrations of CN shrimps were applied on substrates, like Poly (butylene succinate-co-adipate)/Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate (PBSA/PHBV) blend, Polybutylene succinate (PBS), adipate terephthalate/Poly(lactic acid) (PBAT/PLA) but the adhesion to substrates was scarce. On contrary, fungal-based showed better adhesion. Additionally, it found use an additive based oligomeric lactic acid useful prepare coating improved bioplastics. The gas barrier properties oxygen water vapour coated un-coated films measured, revealing improvement these thanks coatings, especially towards oxygen.
