Ecological network construction and optimization is an effective way to balance the contradiction between regional development ecological protection in process of urbanization. The urban–rural fringe both a frontier zone direction urban expansion important space for improving environment. However, there are few studies on how construct optimize networks fringe. In this paper, morphological spatial pattern analysis (MSPA) minimum cumulative resistance model (MCR) were firstly employed initially reveal characteristics problems security study area. Then, new strategy with multi-scenario coupling gradient zoning was proposed meet maximization integrated benefits future protection. results show that: (1) Urbanization caused high fragmentation patches, exerted strong hindrance processes. (2) distribution constructed extremely uneven, communication north–south severely difficult. optimized significantly improved respect, priority corridors will also help strengthen gradient. (3) connectivity accessibility Licheng District, enhanced its structure, which promote overall cycle better balanced (4) Policy makers should implementation green forest belts achieve This can provide scientific references biodiversity conservation, infrastructure planning, sustainable

Exploring future land use/cover change (LULC) and ecosystem service values (ESV) dynamics is crucial for sustainable development from regional to global scales. However, ESV significantly affected by economic policy changes, projections of are generally characterized large uncertainties due complexity in LULC dynamics. Mining activities supposed exert significant effects on dynamics, while the patterns controls mining-dominated basins still less understood, especially under different land-use scenarios. Here, based multi-source remote sensing data Fenhe River Basin, we integrated SD model, Markov model PLUS simulate Basin four scenarios, i.e., priority (EDP), natural (ND), cultivated protection (CLP), ecological (EPP). Based equivalent coefficient method geographical detector, further determined ESV. Results showed that construction were mainly concentrated central parts basin, grassland woodland edge area basin. Over past two decades, have experienced expansion, areas grasslands lands declined mining activities. The high-value sub-high-value woodland, grassland, reservoir water mainstream tributary. low-value was located gathering land. total a downward trend with time, highest decline use scenarios EDP, lowest drop EPP. contribution rate which land, area, totally accounting 58.54% whole detector indicated distance residential soil erodibility, river, type annual average temperature main driving factors affecting spatial Our results highlighted fundamental role activity shrinkage, suggested rehabilitation should be given terms improving basins.

Afforestation is widely acknowledged as an effective approach for enhancing ecological conditions. Considering the challenging environment on Loess Plateau, prioritizing soil and water conservation functions in stands crucial. The study aimed to ascertain future development direction of forestry Plateau by examining two representative forest types: planted (Robinia pseudoacacia pure Pinus tabulaeformis forest), natural secondary (a mixed Quercus liaotungensis Populus davidiana). assessment centered types, encompassing function (rainfall distribution changes multi-year moisture storage (0–200 cm)), (soil physicochemical properties), understory plant diversity stability. results indicated that forests outperformed terms effectively converting more precipitation into moisture, reducing runoff, maintaining higher storage. Additionally, exhibited superior compared forests, characterized porosity nutrient properties. variation community structure between shrub herbaceous layers was significant among different than within each (P < 0.05). Natural herb biodiversity interspecific repeatability forests. Therefore, are a suitable type considering conditions silvicultural objectives Plateau. To enhance quality afforestation, it recommended adopt near-natural planting patterns replicate environmental For instance, actively creating emulate tree species composition gradually dependence single dominant species. Furthermore, arborous litter had direct substantial influence layers. Foresters should prioritize regulating stand structure, such increasing canopy variability, stands. they protect fulfill its role quality. This provides theoretical foundation practical guidance implementation vegetation restoration ecologically vulnerable areas,

Urbanization, driven by rapid economic growth, has resulted in dramatic land use/cover change (LUCC), posing substantial risks to urban ecological security. While constructing networks is a productive strategy for achieving balance between protection and urbanization, the limited research conducted on impacts of LUCC spatial patterns during urbanization poses hindrance scientific construction networks. Therefore, this study focuses Jinan City, an important city situated downstream region Yellow River Basin, China. The utilized simulation approaches, including MSPA, MCR, InVEST model gravity model, investigate analyze City from 2000 2020. A set capturing changes network elements was proposed explore evolutionary characteristics pattern Finally, Geodetector impact mechanism findings indicate that: (1) During last two decades, development witnessed expansion approximately 588.83 km2, proportion also increased, but overall structure distribution are not balanced. (2) Despite areas, escalation resistance significant degradation functional capacity corridors, with decrease 8.37 % number primary corridors. reduced connectivity impeded efficient cycling processes ecosystems. (3) complex interactions cumulative effects led evolution transformation cropland into improved composition network, while encroachment disorderly internal types principal factors causing elements. (4) influenced coupling policies. However, there need government strengthen policy coordination optimize layout better manage conserve This holds potential offer valuable insights references guiding planning, protection, formulation sustainable policies throughout process.

Due to the rapid development of urbanization, land-use types have changed greatly, which has led many ecological problems. Therefore, current research objective is solve problems in existence Jinan, so as determine existing landscape risks and optimize structure. Using 2 m high-resolution remote sensing images related natural economic data, this study evaluated risk constructed a full-factor network Jinan with assessment method (ERI) minimum cumulative resistance model (MCR) based on ecology theory. The results showed that: (1) ERI presented spatial concentration high value areas central central–eastern regions, while other levels distribution around regions risk. (2) important corridors were mainly distributed south stable not easily destroyed. secondary, passing through cultivated land urban greenways, unstable susceptible interference.

The escalating pace of urbanization and human activities presents formidable challenges to landuse patterns ecological environments. Achieving a harmonious coexistence between humans nature high quality has emerged as global imperative. Constructing an security pattern become essential approach mitigating the adverse impacts urban sprawl, safeguarding well-being, promoting healthy development ecosystems. Focusing on ecosystem sustainability, stability, integrity, this study constructed in rapidly urbanizing areas, emphasizing achieving well-balanced integration expansion preservation. Ecological sources were identified by evaluation system “ecosystem service function–ecological sensitivity–landscape connectivity”. Resistance surfaces integrating natural factors. corridors nodes extracted methods such minimum cumulative resistance gravity models. Taking Nanchang City example, results show that there 15 sources, primarily woodland, displaying distinct “island” phenomenon. Additionally, 41 with combined length 2170.54 km, exhibiting dense distribution southwest sparse northeast. city was found encompass 122 nodes, predominantly situated along near indicating strong spatial aggregation pattern. An optimized “one ring, two belts, three zones, multiple nodes” proposed for synergizing protection, restoration, rapid urbanizing.

Urbanization has significantly impacted ecological connectivity, making the optimization of networks (ENs) crucial. However, many existing strategies focus on overall network structure and overlook spatial concentration local processes flow (EPF), limiting effectiveness planning. This study proposes a novel EN framework based urban–rural gradient zoning to enhance connectivity from perspective EPF. The divides areas outside core urban zone (CUZ) into fringe (UFZ), interface (UIZ), natural rural (NRZ), applying tailored in each zone. These include increasing corridor redundancy, reducing resistance, expanding width alleviate EPF concentration. Using Jinan, mega-city China’s Yellow River Basin, as case study, this simulated changes over 20 years validated framework’s effectiveness. Optimization validation showed that land low-flow corridors 65% UIZ NRZ 5 km improved by 6.3%, addressing seven pinch points three barrier points. highlights importance optimizing ENs via support sustainable development protection policies.
