Motor functions are deteriorated by aging. Some conditions may magnify this deterioration. This study examined whether hemodialysis (HD) process would negatively impact gait and balance beyond diabetes condition among mid-age adults (48–64 years) older (65+ years). One hundred ninety-six subjects (age = 66.2 ± 9.1 years, body-mass-index 30.1 6.4 kg/m2, female 56%) in 5 groups were recruited: with undergoing HD (Mid-age HD+, n 38) without HD−, 40); (Older 36) 37); non-diabetic DM−, 45). Gait parameters (stride velocity, stride length, cycle time, double support) (ankle, hip, center of mass sways) quantified using validated wearable platforms. Groups had overall poorer compared to the group (p < 0.050). Among people diabetes, HD+ significantly worsened when comparing HD− (Cohen’s effect size d 0.63–2.32, p Between-group difference was more pronounced largest observed for length (d 2.32, 0.001). Results suggested that deterioration normalized speed correlated age (r −0.404, 0.001), while correlation diminished HD−. Interestingly, results also poor Older is related ankle stability, no between stability HD+. Using objective assessments, confirmed presence can deteriorate balance, be magnified process. described gait. However, HD, a dominate factor describing irrespective static balance. feasibility platforms quantify motor performance during routine dialysis clinic visit. These assessments assist identifying early function, which turn promote timely intervention.

Objective Office environments have been causally linked to workplace-related illnesses and stress, yet little is known about how office workstation type objective metrics of physical activity stress. We aimed explore these associations among workers in US federal buildings. Methods conducted a wearable, sensor-based, observational study 231 four Outcome variables included workers’ physiological stress response, perceived Relationships between were assessed using structural equation modelling. Results Workers open bench seating more active at the than those private offices cubicles (open vs office=225.52 mG (31.83% higher on average) (95% CI 136.57 314.46); cubicle=185.13 (20.16% 66.53 303.72)). Furthermore, experienced lower (−0.27 (9.10% −0.54 −0.02)). Finally, was related (higher heart rate variability time domain) outside (−26.12 ms/mG (14.18% −40.48 −4.16)). Background: Social isolation during COVID-19 may negatively impact older adults’ wellbeing. To assess its impact, we measured changes in physical activity and sleep among community-dwelling adults, from pre-to post-pandemic declaration. Method: Physical adults (n = 10, age 77.3 ± 1.9 years, female 40%) were remotely assessed within 3-month 6-month declaration using a pendant-wearable system. Depression was pre-and the Center for Epidemiologic Studies scale compared with 48 h continuous monitoring data before pandemic. Results: Compared to pre-pandemic, time spent standing declined by 32.7% (Cohen’s d 0.78, p < 0.01), walking 52.2% (d 1.1, step-counts 55.1% 1.0, 0.016), postural transitions 44.6% 0.82, 0.017) increase sitting duration 20.5% 0.5, 0.049). symptoms increased 150% 0.8, 0.046). Interestingly, depression significantly correlated unbroken-prolong bout (ρ 0.677, 0.032), cadence −0.70, 0.024), −0.72, 0.019). Conclusion: This is one of early longitudinal studies highlighting adverse effect pandemic on objectively adults. Our observations showed need timely intervention mitigate hard reverse consequences decreased such as depression.

Abstract Background Recent advances in wearable sensor technologies enable objective and long-term monitoring of motor activities a patient’s habitual environment. People with mobility impairments require appropriate data processing algorithms that deal their altered movement patterns determine clinically meaningful outcome measures. Over the years, large variety have been published this review provides an overview measures, concepts algorithms, type placement required sensors as well investigated patient populations measurement properties. Methods A systematic search was conducted MEDLINE, EMBASE, SCOPUS October 2019. The strategy designed to identify studies (1) involved people impairments, (2) used inertial sensors, (3) provided description underlying algorithm, (4) quantified aspect everyday life activity. two authors independently screened hits for eligibility extraction narrative review. Results Ninety-five were included They covered measures which can be grouped into four categories: maintaining changing body position, walking moving, moving around using wheelchair, involve upper extremity. validity or reproducibility these outcomes fourteen different populations. This study offers a new perspective on the role of relative humidity in strategies to improve health and wellbeing office workers. A lack studies sufficient participant size diversity relating (RH) measured outcomes has been driving factor relaxing thermal comfort standards for RH removing lower limit dry air. We examined association between objectively stress responses, physical activity (PA), sleep quality. diverse group workers (n = 134) from four well-functioning federal buildings wore chest-mounted heart rate variability monitors three consecutive days, while at same time, temperature (T) were their workplaces. Those who spent majority time conditions 30%-60% experienced 25% less than those drier conditions. Further, correlational our response suggests optimal values may exist within an even narrower range around 45%. Finally, we found indirect effect poorer quality, mediated by outside this range.

In the elderly, geriatric problems such as risk of fall or frailty are a challenge for society. Patients with present difficulties in walking and higher risk. The use sensors gait analysis allows detection objective parameters related to these pathologies make an early diagnosis. Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) wearables that, due their accuracy, portability, low price, excellent option analyze human health-monitoring applications. Many relevant (e.g., step time, speed) used assess motor, even cognitive, health but we perceived that there is not full consensus on which most significant estimate state. this work, analyzed different IMU-based proposed literature state (robust, prefrail, frail) aim was collect parameters, measured from inertial sensors, able discriminate between patient groups highlight those controversy among examined works.
