Abstract
This
chapter
turns
introduces
the
idea
of
urban
propertyscapes,
which
refers
to
patterns
residential
and
commercial
property
development
in
a
given
city,
how
this
is
arranged
across
space,
it
relates
land
regimes
politics
regulation.
After
examining
post-conflict
evolution
real
estate
sector
three
cities,
delineates
basic
incentives
constraints
these
have
channelled
ever
more
resources
into
‘secondary
circuit’
capital,
drawing
away
from
productive
investment.
It
then
considers
questions
housing
provision,
particularly
Addis
Ababa,
site
one
Africa’s
most
extraordinary
state-driven
experiments,
why
so
little
has
been
built
other
cases.
In
concluding
comparative
discussion,
argues
that
different
distributions
power
strategies
legitimation
are
central
accounting
for
emergent
propertyscapes
region.

Abstract
This
concluding

revisits
the

their
relationship
to

in

urban
trajectories,
before
reviewing

Drawing
across
book’s
analytical
framework,
examines
between

how
these

with

Abstract
This
chapter
elaborates
the
book’s
theoretical
framework
in
depth.
It
begins
with
a
discussion
of
some
contemporary
strands
urban
theory
and
extent
to
which
these
engage
or
deflect
questions
causality.
Drawing
on
Critical
Realism,
it
explains
this
interdisciplinary
approach
causal
force,
particularly
relation
structure
infrastructure,
human
non-human
elements
that
shape
transformations.
then
sets
out
detail
each
four
casual
factors
used
explain
divergent
trajectories
development:
distribution
associational
power,
pursuit
social
legitimacy,
modalities
political
informality,
legacies
practices
infrastructural
reach.
Finally,
discusses
how
are
conceptualized
one
another
at
different
scales,
building
‘level
abstracted’
analytical
lens
politics
transformation.
