Digitalization is increasingly seen as a strategic means for firms to yield competitive and environmental advantages. Still, current empirical research does not yet provide ample evidence on how firm's posture towards digitalization connects performance. This study examines the link between digital orientation performance well moderating role of technological turbulence. The natural-resource-based view literature orientations conceptual foundations. hypotheses are tested with data from 515 U.S. Standard Poor's 500 companies 2,800 firm observations 2009 2019. results indicate that, first, has significant positive effect and, second, this even more pronounced in technologically turbulent business environments. Abstract There is a great expectation that Industry 4.0 technologies will enable better circular economy (CE) results at firms. However, it unclear how these might contribute to CE. We hypothesize are positively related the level of integration among actors along supply chain and within firm (SCI), which, in turn, explains superior CE results. Driven by pressures for sustainable development and disruptions such as the COVID-19 pandemic, manufacturing companies in 21st century are affected two intertwined trends: Industry 4.0 servitization. Digital servitization, which represents transition from providing products to offering smart product-service systems, is currently seen a black box confronting them with major challenges. Current literature has not yet investigated capabilities required provision of PSSs. To address this gap, an exploratory multiple case study was performed using semi-structured interviews 18 representatives four six supporting role.
