Nature-based solutions (NBS) are becoming a widely recognized approach to urban sustainability. Most of the literature and policy handbooks on topic emphasize importance participation in some form but interpretations levels commitment vary. While mainstream discourse often presents NBS as set win-win for sustainability, there is tendency romanticize both nature participatory planning processes institutional language practices NBS. In this paper, we review critical perspectives discourse. Then bring scholarship concerning relationship between cities, social change into conversation with commoning, outline an rethinking democratic transformative potential approach, argue moving beyond instrumentalization inherent NBS, locate, within diverse strands theory, that contribute vision commoning frame ecological spaces cities. We contrast enclosure space opportunities opened by particularly terms equality access, public shared resources, distribution benefits.

Currently, the world is facing resource scarcity as environmental impacts of human intervention continue to intensify. To facilitate conservation and recovery ecosystems transform cities into more sustainable, intelligent, regenerative, resilient environments, concepts circularity nature-based solutions (NbS) are applied. The role NbS within green infrastructure in urban resilience recognised, considerable efforts being made by European Commission (EC) achieve sustainability goals. However, it not fully evidenced, an integrated way, which main implemented environment their effects. This article aims identify most recent applied environments at level analyse integration different measures innovative analysis based on real cases. For this purpose, work presents a literature review 69 projects 24 cities, well 8 actions 3 spatial scales implementation district level. Therefore, there great potential for adoption buildings surroundings, still prioritized, given lack effective monitoring effects NbS.

Data extraction was performed by two independent reviewers, using an tool specifically designed for questions. Twenty-seven eligible inclusion: six used interviews qualitative method, three systematic reviews, case study analyses, surveys questionnaires quantitative methods, integrative baseline utilized process model design. Six targeted local, public private stakeholders. Community settings context target fifteen studies, whereas twelve referred urban settings. The concept and application of nature-based solutions (NBS) have been rapidly progressing in Europe Latin America, reflecting a transition the way that urban governance is perceived. There large call for collaborative, polycentric, interdisciplinary NBS. However, research on options operationalising these processes different contexts still insufficient. This study explores analyses operationalisation NBS adaptive America. Seven cities are part project EU-H2020 CONEXUS selected as case studies: Barcelona, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Lisbon, Santiago de Chile, São Paulo, Turin. contribution aims to (i) understand how managed; (ii) identify main positive negative factors influence governance; (iii) common relationships can hinder or drive forward investigated contexts. results revealed priorities indicating shared pathway America; however, context-dependent specificities were also observed. These findings be used support both European American developing plans actions more efficient enabling implementation through governance.

Participatory and collaborative approaches such as co-production, co-creation, co-design have become popular they encourage meaningful participation of wider stakeholders in research decision-making processes to ensure that greenspace benefits the local community. There is, however, a need understand why how researchers use these successful each are. This systematic review synthesizes existing evidence provide answers questions. followed PRISMA guidelines includes studies using co-design, or co-creation approach study green spaces.
