The current study investigates the mental health condition of Mainland Chinese in Canada and identifies associated sociodemographic COVID-19-related predictors. A sample 471 aged 18 or older completed an online survey that collected information on demographics, experience, cognition, behaviours related to COVID-19 pandemic condition. Mental was assessed with Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) for depression, anxiety, stress levels during pandemic. The global COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 required risk communications to mitigate the virus' spread. However, social media not only conveyed health information minimize contagion, but also distracted from threat by linking it an externalized 'other'-primarily those appearing be of Chinese descent. This disinformation caused attribution blame people worldwide. In Canada's Greater Toronto Area, individuals reported widespread public stigma that compounded their contagion; degree was driven cognitive dissonance, generated experiences and cultural vulnerability. this paper, we draw on aforementioned study's findings explain how perception appraisal diaspora were impacted different dissonance pathways. These explore storytelling is a viable intervention with which target dissonance. Indeed, mechanisms can modify vulnerability, thereby averting potential long-term negative consequences for one's mental well-being. Chinese students had to deal not only with challenges such as border closures and lockdowns but also discrimination stigmatisation.
