Urban sprawl has resulted in great losses of vegetation areas, an increase impervious surfaces, and consequently the direct flow stormwater into stream channels (i.e., immediate channels, comparison to indirect that is represented by practices aiming retain for a certain period time treat polluted prior flowing such as detention/retention basins, among others). Stormwater management systems catch basins (CBs) are needed reduce effect runoff. Preventative maintenance, repair, replacement CBs critical achieve best practices. Those prevent blockage system, limit pollutants storm sewers, risk flooding. However, no preceding research studies have been conducted model simulate serviceability determine optimal strategies operating CBs. To extent, this study establishes framework develop validate adaptive overhaul (MRO) strategy In relation that, agent-based (ABM) integrated with Monte Carlo simulation was developed all 560 New York City’s District 5 statistically validated using 99% confidence intervals. The MRO parameters were optimized minimize total cost system attain desired level Sensitivity analysis guide maintenance planning process reveal input on model’s behavior. addition, ten thousand iterations simulated derive distributions defined parameters. results proved order overall minimum threshold 80%, following policy needs be implemented: having seven service crews (where human resources teams) perform required work), implementing replacing policy, after five periods. findings revealed represent most parameter affecting This contributes existing literature offering better knowledge devising properly them. Ultimately, helps decision-makers engineers lifespan their risks breakdown, efficiency, avoid unnecessary costs. proposed flexible can implemented any geographical area other model/system parameters, which makes it scenario presented user. Finally, maintaining protecting environment decreasing demand systems, reducing flooding, people properties, promoting healthier rivers, creating more sustainable communities.

Urban clusters are areas with high building and infrastructure concentration limited green natural landscapes. Since buildings, bridges, roads, other absorb heat from the sun re-emit it to atmosphere, urban becoming "islands" that have higher temperature compared rural surrounding areas. This phenomenon is known as island (UHI) effect, which associated global warming generated increased human activities. While previous studies examined potential factors could affect heat-related challenges, little-to-no research prioritized these using a data-driven approach. To address this knowledge gap, paper determined most critical contribute UHIs feature selection- machine learning-based methods. First, dataset was collected developed for all census tracts in state of New Jersey relation 14 impact UHI effect. These considered independent variables, while average day intensity each tract dependent variable. Second, engineering algorithms were implemented extract or identify prominent factors. Third, ranked prioritized. The results prioritization ranking different based on multiple so robust conclusions be obtained. study serves useful reference decision-makers involved addressing challenges resulting by offering better understanding important need controlled managed.

Background and objective: Globally, the sustainability of urban areas is being compromised due to indiscriminate development, making creation management green spaces increasingly critical. Green play a pivotal role in connecting degraded natural ecosystems, concept Infrastructure gaining prominence as strategy for managing networks. A (GI) network interconnected that provide benefits humans through their utilization management, fulfilling environmental, social, economic functions. However, most areas, lack connectivity between each other are not managed an integrated manner. Additionally, types functions defined by policies regulations vary, it challenging implement GI. Therefore, this study aims examine reclassify precursor indicators order effectively apply GI strategies. It seeks discuss approaches based on GI, with aim facilitating its implementation. Methods: The city Liverpool UK has presented multifunctionality which been utilized global exemplary case. This adopts proposed Liverpool, reclassifies selects Focus Group Interviews(FGI) experts field surveys. selected were survey evaluation multifunctionality. quantitative data collected mapped using overlay techniques, led deriving map In process mapping, weights derived from Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) analysis applied enhance reliability survey. Results: study, suitable area selected, functionality land cover (LC) type was evaluated. As result, found within single parcel. highest-scoring LC Woodland, predominant functional category Human-Wildlife Coexistence. lowest-scoring Cemetery, least represented Timber Production. Conclusion: fulfills multiple range (multifunctionality). To maximize such multifunctionality, crucial manage scores according type. solely focused specific functions, but also requires strategies functionalities lacking low scores. assessment can serve essential review when local authorities formulating spatial plans related spaces, forests, relevant areas.

Abstract Nature-based solutions are becoming increasingly recognized as effective tools for addressing various environmental problems. This study presents a novel approach to selecting optimal blue–green infrastructure (BGI) tailored the unique and climatic challenges of Istanbul, Türkiye. The primary objective is utilize Bayesian Belief Network (BBN) model assisting in identification most BGI solutions, considering city’s distinct conditions vulnerabilities climate change. Our methodology integrates comprehensive data collection, including meteorological land use data, employs BBN analyze weigh complex network factors influencing suitability. Key findings reveal model’s capacity effectively predict applicability across diverse scenarios, with quantitative results demonstrating notable enhancement decision-making processes urban sustainability. Quantitative from our significant improvement accuracy, predictive accuracy rate 82% identifying suitable scenarios. particularly densely populated districts, where predicted 25% greater efficiency stormwater management heat island mitigation compared traditional planning methods. also acknowledges limitations, such scarcity need further refinement. highlight potential application other areas, making it valuable tool improving sustainability change adaptation. shows importance incorporating detailed local zones into suggests that similar methodologies could be beneficial settings.

As the earliest discussed concept of Green Infrastructure (GI), Landscape-scale GI, in form an ecological network capable balancing development and conservation, has received widespread attention. Its multifunctionality is one important features. However, lack information funding, weakness management authority technical support make practice GI challenging. Compared to adapted stormwater management, which comprehensive guidance from theory practical technologies by officials during its introduction promotion other countries, despite a rich theoretical research foundation, often overlooked due insufficient summary on techniques. To address this gap, study uses mixed methods comprehensively analyze 27 projects led Conservation Fund over past 20 years explore patterns their applications. Through qualitative analysis, we standardized classified descriptive for these and, combined with statistical clarified trends committed conservation. The quantitative analysis concentrated corresponding relationships between applications project objectives, functions. Based this, categorized used, summarizing core applicable most practices, providing some GI.
