Urbanization effects on the food-water-energy nexus within ecosystem services: A case study of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration in China

findings
indicate
an
annual
increase
construction
with
a
concurrent
notable
decrease
cultivated
land.
Furthermore,
HQ,
CS,
per
capita
FP
show
decline
until
2020,
expected
continue
Conversely,
WY
SDR
have
been
growing
annually,
albeit
projected
by
Spearman
coefficient
analysis
uncovers
synergies
HQ
alongside
trade-offs
CS
WY.
Trade-offs
are
also
observed
SDR,
HQ.
Applying
K-means
clustering
facilitates
county-based
spatial
planning
F-W-E
system,
providing
crucial
insights
suggestions
sustainable
resource
management.

conflicts
are
becoming
more
pronounced.
The
availability
of

watersheds

Exploring
factors
that
influence
yield
is
crucial

to
protecting
resource.
Previous
research
on
influencing
has
frequently
adopted
a
macro-level
perspective,
which
failed
reflect
mechanisms
changes
at
local
scale
adequately.
Therefore,
this
study
proposes
novel
framework
for
integrally
evaluating
impacts
activities
services
from
both
perspectives.
Taking
Ganzhou
City,
source
Ganjiang
River,
as
an
example,
results
show
following:
(1)
City
had
largest
1307.29
mm
2016,
lowest
was
only
375.32
2011.
spatial
distribution
pattern
mainly
affected
surface
environment,
high-value
regions
area
were
predominantly
located
urban
areas
with
flat
terrain.
(2)
At
scale,
where
contribute
than
80%
accounted
25%
area.
In
comparison,
impact
0.95%.
contribution
rate
significantly
greater
change.
(3)

ABSTRACT
The
Northern
Hebei
Province
(NHB)
in
China
serves
as
a
crucial
geographical
barrier
for
ensuring
the
ecological
security
of
mega
city‐group
Beijing
–Tianjin‐Hebei.
Due
to
rapid
urbanization
and
anthropogenic
afforestation,
NHB
is
confronted
with
significant
challenge
coordinating
preservation
ecosystem
services
(ESs)
socio‐economic
development.
Consequently,
understanding
impacts
these
human
disturbances
on
ESs
essential
future
decision‐making
management
optimal
provisions
ESs.
Integrated
Valuation
Ecosystem
Services
Trade‐offs
Tools
(InVEST)
model
was
used
evaluating
long‐term
trends
five
key
NHB,
namely
carbon
storage
(CS),
habitat
quality
(HQ),
water
yield
(WY),
net
primary
productivity
(NPP)
food
production
(FP).
Further,
trade‐offs/synergy
were
analyzed,
bundles
identified.
main
conclusions
are
follows:

From
1996
2020,
impervious
surface
(+122.84%),
barren
(+169.74%),
forest
(+19.8%)
shrub
(+49.03%)
increased;
waters
(−39%),
cropland
(−20.22%)
grassland
(−6.14%)
decreased.

HQ,
CS,
WY
decreased
by
−5.68%,
−10.69%
−
20.55%,
respectively,
while
other
increased
(NPP
115.09%,
FP
137.14%).
Increases
