Professional development involves facing numerous challenges. It is a complex process, susceptible to personal aspects (e.g., health, happiness, productivity), but also contextual recognition of the complexity and unpredictability labor market, need have positive impact on community). Purpose The concept of a “sustainable career” has gained significant attention in recent academic literature, extending beyond mere professional success, encompassing elements happiness, health, productivity and social empowerment. This study aims to develop validate the sustainable career scale (SCS) measure this multidimensional construct, including innovative dimension “social empowerment,” which emphasizes importance responsibly addressing global needs challenges. Design/methodology/approach research comprises five studies with distinct objectives: Study 1 focuses on item development latent structure verification; 2 confirms factorial structure; 3 assesses concurrent discriminant validity; 4 examines predictive validity reliability; 5 measures gender invariance. Findings Results demonstrate reliability SCS items structure. Concurrent are supported by analyzing relationships work engagement, meaning, employability, burnout, decent job satisfaction. Additionally, shows forecasting eudaimonic, hedonic well-being. Gender invariance is confirmed. Research limitations/implications Future could explore its applicability across diverse contexts. implications for researchers practitioners, serving as an assessment tool advance guide interventions improve careers that address foster responsible management practices. Self-efficacy is the belief in knowing how to take right course of action achieve one’s goals. The four pillars self-efficacy are mastery experience, vicarious verbal and social persuasions emotional physiological states. To explore models Italian students, we conducted a qualitative study involving 150 students divided into three groups balanced by gender age. results showed that fall categories: family members, close people who do not belong with public image. participants were asked indicate what they could learn from their models. answers anticipate some psychological dimensions positively related can support facing today’s working contexts. These be useful psychologists or career counsellors as planning activities.
